- Part one of two. Ken is angry at Titus as he had to give up his dream of becoming a drag racer when Titus was born. In contrast Titus is living his dream of owning a garage shop and making good looking hot rods.
To get his shop's reputation back, Christopher begins drag racing to get his name back into the car world. Titus is at the races just to put the shop's name out there and drum up some business. Ken says that Titus has no chance of winning races, but Titus doesn't care about that. Ken begs Titus to put him behind the wheel. Titus says that Ken had the chance to save his business 3 months ago and Ken did nothing. Titus was desperate to borrow $5000 to get back on his feet and Ken only laughed at him. Titus gives him a sweeping job instead. Erin is in a wheelchair due to her broken leg and is attending the drag race.
Jay Leno is a racing fan and has sponsored a car. Leno makes fun of Titus's car and the fact that he has no back up car either. Titus says that he spent every dime he had on the car and he is not rich like Leno. Leno gives Titus another dime and asks him to buy another car. Titus wants to beat him, and Ken suggests changing the fuel mixture and enriching it by 10-12%. When Titus won't listen to Ken, Ken sides with Leno and gives him tips, but Leno brushes him off too.
Titus wins their first race for the team. Everybody is surprised since the car was not supposed to win any races. Titus taunts Ken for not listening to any of his suggestions. Turns out Ken enriched the fuel mix when Titus wasn't looking. Dave thanks Ken for saving them from Titus's bad mistakes. Erin also supports Ken. Ken then says that Dave should drive the car, since he is lighter and will shave a few microseconds from the time. Ken also proves that Dave has much better reflexes than Titus. Erin and Tommy also support Ken's idea of Dave driving the car. Dave chickens out when Titus says that it is 6000 horsepower high performance vehicle, which can kill Dave if he makes even the tiniest mistake. Dave says that he does not have drag car license and backs away. But this time Jay sees value in Ken's suggestions and brings him over to his crew.
After an argument with his father, Titus has no new ideas to make the car go faster. And Jay Leno's car is breaking speed records. Erin wants Titus to bring Ken back to the team. Ken comes back to the team and gives Titus suggestions on how to improve the time on his car. Titus wants to win on his own, without sharing the credit with Ken. Ken wants to help, but he wants the credit for the win to himself. Ideas include removing the 20% overdrive blower pulley, advance the timing by 4.5 degrees, check the pressure in the tires as the track is cooling off. Christopher ends up clinging to life when his car crashes and blows up.
