"All honor for making victory possible".

Warning: Spoilers
As World War II progressed, Adolph Hitler became more and more convinced that the outcome of the war would be decided by U-Boats. He dedicated his manufacturing plants to producing the most modern and lethal submarines in the world. In response, the Allies formed an air surveillance strategy using a combination of wide arcing vectors based at strategic locations, among them Bermuda, Newfoundland, Iceland and the Azores. In America, a new class of warship was designed to take the fight to the submarines. The CBE, also known as a jeep carrier or baby flat top, was commissioned allowing fliers to take off from their decks and hunt down the enemy.

In one of the more interesting stories of "Victoy at Sea", (which is quite saying something, because all the stories are interesting), there's a segment here about the jeep carrier 'Guadalcanal' setting out to capture a German submarine! Honing in on a German U5O-5 in the North Atlantic, Navy fliers used a combination of bombs and machine gun fire to injure the sub. Initially forced to avoid destruction by diving deeper, the crew had to decide to surface or face death.

The chapter concludes with the stunning recap of eight hundred sixty six Axis submarines littering the floor of the Atlantic by the time the war was over. For all of his grand plans, Hitler faced crushing defeat on the high seas about the same time the Allies were preparing to invade Europe.

Killers and the Kill details German defeat in the Atlantic Ocean on Victory at Sea
tavm29 June 2007
As the Allies form bombing bases in lands bordering the Atlantic Ocean, the Germans try one more chance at conquering that area by sneaking a submarine from west of Europe. Unfortunately for them, they get caught and attacked from all angles...Perhaps the episode of Victory at Sea that most details the German defeat in the Atlantic Ocean at the Allies' side. Exciting footage dominates the last several minutes with stirring narration from Leonard Graves and likewise music from Richard Rodgers contributing the appropriate mood throughout. A salute to all the men, living and dead, who helped make the world safe for democracy during these trying times indeed. As always, this and other episodes of Victory at Sea are most highly recommended.
