Sex & Nudity

  • At the beginning of the episode, a man is shown with his shirt off. Scully suggests that everyone at the base they are investigating do self-examinations of their skin in front of each other for symptoms of a disorder. The men get together and take off their shirts, and you see them begin to take off their pants. Mulder says "Before you pass judgment, may I remind you that we are in the Arctic." Moments later, you see the bare back of one of the scientists as Scully, in a tank top, examines her. The camera slowly pans around and it is clear that the scientist is nude, but nothing is shown.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • At the beginning of the episode, two dead bodies are shown, and a man is shown with visible cuts and blood on his chest and head. Moments later, the man is attacked by another man, and they break through a pane of glass and begin fighting each other. Several punches are thrown. Later, the men acquire guns and point them at each other, then turn them on themselves. You hear the gunshots but are shown a wide shot of the base they are in and not their deaths. Violence is heard, but not shown. When Scully, Mulder and the scientists arrive at the base, they see two dead bodies, and one has several cuts on it. A dog attacks Mulder and breaks the skin of one of the other characters, causing them to bleed. When the group investigates the dog, they see some sort of bloody sore under his fur and some black nodes on his skin. One member of the group hits Mulder over the head with a glass jar, and after the rest of the group restrains that person, they extract what looks like a mealworm or tapeworm from his neck. There is visible blood, and the creature is covered with it as it is removed, and then it excretes some sort of gooey, black substance. If a viewer is not comfortable with medical operations, parasites or worms, it would not be wise for them to watch this scene. Several times the skin of a character is shown as something appears to burrow and move under it. Blood is shown dripping from a freezer, and a body is found inside with its throat slit. There is a visible wound and visible blood.
