Mulder's response towards the "Gimp" roughing him up in the interrogation scene is almost identical to Sam Spade's response to Wilmer Cook when Spade is roughed up by Cook in a scene in The Maltese Falcon. Also, after the initial confrontations by these characters (Mulder and the Gimp/ Spade and Cook), they continually tell other characters throughout their respective stories to "Keep him away from me!" A similar scene is found in both the remakes of "The Maltese Falcon" as well.North by Northwest (1959)
