In this episode Desmond Glazebrook becomes the Governor of the Bank of England. The actor who portrays him, Richard Vernon, previously played the Governor of the Bank of England in Goldfinger (1964).
The original version of the commentary about who reads the papers was written in 1973 by writer Kevin Grant based on an idea by Brian Redhead, who was an author, journalist and broadcaster. Slightly different versions have appeared over the years. Bernard's punch line refers to the photos of topless women which appeared on page three of the Sun starting in 1970, followed by several other UK papers.
