Fans interested in celebrating the New Year from the bright lights of Las Vegas can tune in to Fox for the network's "New Year's Eve Live" special. The show will feature "American Idol" season seven winner David Cook and Grammy Award-winning musician Scott Weiland.
Celebrity News Service has learned that the show will be co-hosted by Spike Feresten of "Talkshow With Spike Feresten" and Mark Thompson of "Hole in the Wall." They will report live from the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip.
Feresten and Thompson will count down to 2009 with celebrity guests and performances by some of the year's hottest musical artists. Fox has picked up its Saturday late-night comedy Talkshow With Spike Feresten for a second season.
Additionally the network is in talks to bring back sketch comedy show Mad TV for a 13th season, but sources said that the two sides remain far apart.
Talkshow, hosted by former Seinfeld writer Spike Feresten, will continue to air in the midnight-12:30 a.m. time period, unless a new deal for Mad TV is not reached.
"Spike has shown himself to be a unique voice in the late night comedy field and his show presents a refreshing alternative to the format," said Todd Yasui, Fox's senior vp late-night programming. "We're looking forward to watching him continue to grow as a performer."
Talkshow, produced by Fox TV Studio, mixes elements of a talk show and comedy sketches.
"In Spike Feresten, we found that wonderful, rare combination of an original voice, comedic pedigree and likability," said Holly Jacobs, executive vp alternative development at FtvS. "We greatly appreciate Fox's support of the show and are thrilled that 'Talkshow' will have the opportunity to continue to entertain and build the late-night audience."
In its most recent airing, Talkshow, which follows Mad TV, ranked second in its time period among adults 18-34.

Fox is going all-out to lessen the impact of pre-emptions of the broadcast network's primetime schedule this month for postseason Major League Baseball. Fox Broadcasting Co., Fox Interactive Media and Fox Television Stations have joined forces with Tuesday's launch of Fox on Demand, a venture making full-length episodes of the network's entertainment programming available through MySpace and MyFoxLocal Web sites in 24 markets with Fox owned-and-operated stations, including Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. Through the ad-supported initiative, viewers can access previously aired episodes of such series as Bones, Prison Break, Standoff, Vanished, Talk Show With Spike Feresten, 'Til Death, The Loop and Justice in the 24 O&O markets and by logging on to MySpace. Additional episodes from the new series and other Fox shows will be available through November.
