When Stan and Kyle are leaving the Foley family's house, Mr. Foley tells them to marry an Asian woman to avoid having ginger children, saying "I know a guy who's marrying a Japanese woman very soon for just that reason." This is an inside joke, referring to Trey Parker who at the time was engaged to Emma Sugiyama, a Japanese woman.
Cartman refers to Kyle as a "daywalker" in this episode due to his ability to go out in the sunlight without burning, as opposed to regular gingers who need protection from the sunlight lest they burn. This is a reference to the Blade movies whose main character is also refered to as a daywalker due to him being a vampire, but being able to be in the sunlight without burning.
This is the last episode in which the old design of the school cafeteria is shown.
There is a poster in the library that reads: The Bear, the Horse and the Closet. This is a spoof of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
