Brannigan, Begin Again
Tweekums10 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
In a display of incompetence which was spectacular even for Zapp Brannigan he manages to destroy the new DOOP headquarters during its opening ceremony. This leads to him and Kif being dismissed from the service. After walking the streets for a while they turn up at Planet Express looking for employment. It isn't long before he starts a mutiny on the ship and throws Leela in the brig (the laundry room). Fry and Bender are pleased until Zapp decides to launch a suicide attack against his deadly enemy: The Neutrals.

This episode is a classic that is still funny after several viewings; Zapp Brannigan is as fun as ever and his enemy, the Neutrals are so bland they are hilarious... one says 'If I don't make it tell my wife hello' Kif also provides so good laughs as he can't think of anything to say that doesn't in some way involve Zapp Brannigan... at the end I was almost disappointed when Zapp and Kif returned to their old jobs but I'm sure that is where they are funniest in the long run!

I'm not Neutral- I think this is a good episode
gizmomogwai8 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Brannigan, Begin Again made IGN's top 5 best Futurama episodes list, with the writers of that piece expressing their opinion that Zapp Brannigan is the best character of the series. I'm not sure I'd agree, but he is a funny character- known as a hero but really a buffoon and a coward, a man who mistakenly thinks he's God's gift to women. And here a variety of peoples from across the galaxy see Zapp for the idiot he is when he accidentally, negligently, and ridiculously destroys the headquarters for a peaceful interplanetary organization. Zapp is court-martialed, and along with his assistant Kif, loses his rank. (As a civilian, Zapp actually wears pants- he doesn't seem to as an officer.) Zapp and Kif are then hired by the Professor for his delivery business. When Captain Leela proves to be a difficult woman to work for, Fry and Bender mutiny and declare Zapp to be the new captain.

Although, as we know from later episodes, Fry loves Leela, we see a little complication in their relationship in that Fry considers her to be too strict as a captain. He even makes an unflattering doodle of Leela. But, as Leela says in this episode, she and Fry are friends. This makes the mutiny hurt, although the experience apparently doesn't teach Leela anything as she delightfully suggests at the end of the episode that the crew rebel against the Professor. Besides making fun of Zapp, other humour in this episode is found in Kif annoying Leela, the lack of fiery passion of the Neutral alien civilization, and the Professor's age- here he doesn't remember Bender. The trial is also funny, as we find out the jury witnessed the destruction of the headquarters and Zapp's chances of getting an acquittal are nil. No need for a beige alert- this episode is fine.

The One Where Brannigan's Out On His Butt...

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoy this episode. It's not one of my all-time favorite episodes from the series, but in this season, it's a pretty good one.

In this episode, Zapp Brannigan "accidentally" blows up the new DOOP space headquarters. I used quotation marks because he didn't mean to, but his stupidity lead to it being destroyed. Anyway, he gets kicked out of his post, and has to become a civilian. Sadly for Kif, he also gets fired. Brannigan begs for a job at Planet Express, ends up convincing Fry, and Bender to declare mutiny on Leela, commandeering the ship, almost getting everyone killed, and at the end of the day, he's still as obnoxious as ever.

Title Screen Gag: Not Y3K compliant.

First appearance of: The chicken lawyer.

Overall, I give this episode a 7 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Great.
