At one point, the Mythbusters are measuring the electrical resistance to determine the conductivity of a specific medium (Adam's mouth), which in turn is used to adjust the salinity of the test environment. However, the resistance is not only determined by the salinity of the medium but also by the distance between the electrodes, which are much further apart in the glass jar than they were in Adam's mouth.
