Emma Stone was truly a champ when it came to preparing for her role as tennis legend Billie Jean King in the upcoming film Battle of the Sexes (Sept. 22).
The Oscar-winning actress transformed her body into an athlete’s with the help of her trainer, Jason Walsh, who also got her in shape for La La Land.
Prior to training, “Emma was pretty light and had a very petite, dancer-type body,” Walsh tells People. “I wanted to put some weight on her, some muscle on her. We really shifted the diet plan. She started taking in more good, healthy calories.

Sundquist alleges that “serious violations of minimum industry standard safety protocols occurred” on the set that day. Also Read: Tom Sizemore Wasn't Supposed to Drive During.

Cinemax's '70s action drama Quarry was among the best-looking TV shows to air in 2016, and tonight's first season finale was its most visually impressive, highlighted by a nine-plus minute Vietnam battle that looked like a "oner," showbiz parlance for a long scene filmed in a single take. There were actually a few hidden edits in there, but the great bulk of it really was shot in one take, which required an absurd amount of preparation on behalf of director Greg Yaitanes and the rest of the cast and crew. Yaitanes, a TV veteran who most recently was the producing director on Cinemax's Banshee, joined some elite company when he directed all 8 hours of this season — a feat that's placed him in impressive company with Steven Soderbergh (The Knick), Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective season 1), Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot season 2), and David Lynch (the upcoming Twin Peaks revival), who have...

Castle has ended for good with a season 8 finale that doesn't do justice to the strength of this show's actors, or its fans' love...
This review contains spoilers.
8.22 Crossfire
I’ve tried. I’ve tried really hard. I’ve watched and rewatched, and there’s only one conclusion: Crossfire is downright insulting to the Castle audience.
As I suggested last week, I’m not exactly surprised by this. The series finale doesn’t just conclude the show, but brings to end one of the most excruciating seasons ever of a show that I otherwise liked. It’s not that I haven’t always had my problems with Castle. I have. But I’ve been a fan of Nathan’s since his short stint on Buffy, where he played, the Gentlemen from Hush aside, the only truly frightening villain the show ever had. And so I’ve followed him,...

There aren’t a lot of horror and sci-fi titles arriving on Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday (there are four, to be exact), but the few we do have to look forward to are an eclectic and entertaining bunch nonetheless. Scream Factory is giving HD overhauls to both Death Becomes Her and the cult classic Sssssss this week, and Christmas is coming a bit early this year by way of Michael Dougherty’s Krampus, which hits Blu-ray and DVD on April 26th. Our last release for this week is a pair of 1970s underground classics, Crypt of the Living Dead and House of the Living Dead, which arrive together on DVD courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome.

From Star Trek: Generations through to Star Trek: Nemesis - here are 47 nerdy spots in the Next Generation films...
Since Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979, the Star Trek cinematic outings have proved to be a smorgasbord of references and famous actors (or those who would go on to be), and often had complex behind the scenes events that stopped some rather, ahem, fascinating moments making it to the final version. We found lots of nerdy spots in the first six films here.
This time out we look at the films featuring the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation and choose 47 factoids. Granted, there's a lot more than that of interest, but we've tried for ones that you might not be aware of.

Young Robert Redford and politics: 'The Candidate' and 'All the President's Men' (photo: Robert Redford as Bob Woodward in 'All the President's Men') A young Robert Redford can be seen The Candidate, All the President's Men, Three Days of the Condor, and Downhill Racer as Turner Classic Movies' Redford series comes to a close this evening. The world of politics is the focus of the first three films, each one of them well-regarded box-office hits. The last title, which shows that politics is part of life no matter what, is set in the world of competitive sports. 'The Candidate' In the Michael Ritichie-directed The Candidate (1972), Robert Redford plays idealistic liberal Democrat Bob McKay, who, with no chance of winning, is convinced to run against the Republican incumbent in a fight for a California seat in Congress. See, McKay is too handsome. Too young. Too liberal.

15. The Immigrant -
If one were to rank the films of 2014 based solely on innovation, The Immigrant would probably end up near the bottom. Writer-director James Gray’s languid melodrama tells the tumultuous story of a resilient Polish woman looking to find a slice of the American Dream, without much in the way of narrative bravado or anything approaching experimentalism. The moralistic script feels like a relic from a bygone studio era.
But to assess the film’s merit based on its stubborn refusal to buck conventions is to deny one’s self the virtues of one of the year’s great films. Marion Cotillard gives an unforgettable performance as Ewa, the titular heroine whose desire to save her sister enables her to overcome the harsh realities of life in New York’s Lower East Side in the early twentieth century. Joaquin Phoenix portrays the snarling antagonist who helps her survive,...

NBC's relationship comedy "A to Z" will answer a question TV fans never even thought to ask: Do Cristin Milioti (the Mother on "How I Met Your Mother") and Ben Feldman (Ginsberg on "Mad Men") have chemistry? That, and the conceit of following a relationship from beginning to end over the course of a single season, were the hot topics at the show's panel at the TCA 2014 summer press tour. Executive producer Ben Queen (a writer on "Cars 2" and creator of that short-lived Fox series "Drive" with Nathan Fillion and Emma Stone) said chemistry was the primary concern in casting. "When they got together to do the network test they had met each other literally a hour before. It was real electric chemistry. I had been told this existed and it's there," Queen said. While Feldman was more self-effacing ("Cristin had her job, they needed to bring in a...

Cristin Milioti will follow up her time on "How I Met Your Mother" with another romantic comedy, NBC's pilot "A to Z."
Milioti, who joined the "Himym" cast as the Mother this season, will play one of the two leads in "A to Z," from writer Ben Queen ("Cars 2," "Drive") and executive producers Rashida Jones ("Parks and Recreation") and her "Celeste & Jesse Forever" co-writer Will McCormack.
"A to Z" chronicles the relationship of a young couple, Andrew and Zelda (hence the title). Milioti will play Zelda, the more practical of the two, an attorney at a public-advocacy firm. She's very much of the opinion that she controls her own destiny and also has emphatically put away childish things: Per the character description, Zelda "loves being a grown-up and doesn't understand why anyone over 20 would go see an animated movie or eat ice cream sundaes."

Unthinkable, a drama series project based on the Boom! Studios comic book series created and written by Mark Sable and drawn by Julian Totino Tedesco, has received a put pilot commitment by Fox as the network continues to be aggressive this buying season. Unthinkable hails from Homeland and 24 executive producer Howard Gordon and writer Ben Queen (Cars 2). Written by Queen, Unthinkable feels a little bit like Castle set at the FBI. It tells the story of the unlikely pairing of a by-the-book FBI agent and a washed-up screenwriter who team up to stop a plot to attack the U.S. that the screenwriter and others concocted in a government-sponsored think tank years earlier. 20th Century Fox TV and Gordon’s studio-based Teakwood Lane will produce, with Gordon and Teakwood’s Hugh Fitzpatrick executive producing alongside Queen and Boom! The third track on one of my favorite rock records of the last decade, Okkervil River’s The Stage Names, is called “A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene.” Without context, its lyric is a bit of a tough nut to crack. Will Sheff sings about events unfolding on a TV screen in the first verse, recaps a dream in the second, and seems to outline the narrator’s innermost wishes in the third. What’s not immediately apparent is that the first verse outlines scenes from two completely different TV shows – scenes that happened to be scored by Okkervil River songs. The first half of the verse refers to “It Ends With a Fall” (from Down the River of Golden Dreams) and its use on the reality series Breaking Bonaduce. (I don’t have that clip handy.) The second half, and probably the more illustrative of the two in any case,...

A couple of key new photos starting with the first photo of Ben Stiller in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. There's also a shot of "Castle" star Nathan Fillion in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and some more photos from Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring.
Posters for R.I.P.D., Aftershock, The Wolverine, The Heat, Filth, Tarzan 3D, Much Ado About Nothing, The Way Way Back, The Bling Ring, Hummingbird, The Hangover Part III, and The Lone Ranger.

"Anthony Mackie says his character of Sam 'The Falcon' Wilson will be more than a cameo in the upcoming sequel 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'.

In anticipation of the release of Tarantino Xx: 8-film Collection on Blu-ray this November 20th, 2012, check out the full interior artwork created by Mondo artist Ken Taylor. Stylistic, bold and unique, Ken Taylor add the same artistic flair to this boxed set as he has for so many of his Mondo poster designs, including this amazing poster for Drive (2011) amongst others. A fitting addition to a boxed set already so highly anticipated it could literally make some film buffs’ heads actually explode. For many, this may be a rare opportunity to own some Mondo art, even if mass produced, as original Mondo prints typically sell out within minutes, if not seconds. For many, it’s been a long wait as we’ve watched various Blu-ray editions of Tarantino films pop up in other countries, but not in the United States… ’till now. Tarantino + Blu-ray + Mondo = a very happy fan of cool cinema!

I am so glad someone finally did something like this as I was considering doing the exact same thing for Drive last year. Vimeo user sleepyskunk has cut together a video totaling 25 minutes long comprised entirely of footage from The Amazing Spider-Man, which he has then cut together in narrative order. Or, at least, narrative order as far as he can tell. I didn't watch the full video since I am seeing the movie this Wednesday and would prefer some mystery remain, but after only 90 seconds it becomes quite clear a lot of the story has already been revealed. There is one thing to say in defense of this kind of marketing and that's that we live in an age where dedicated fans can seek out and find this much marketing material. The studio isn't making you watch it, you can choose not to watch. Some of these clips are...

More casting news has come in for NBC's "Mockingbird Lane", this time involving Broadway and TV star Cheyenne Jackson, who's signed on for a guest role as Eddie Munster's Scout Master Steve, a charming, cheerful widower with no children of his own who becomes smitten with Lily.
In addition to acting in such projects as "30 Rock" and "Glee", Jackson just released his first single, “Drive", and booked a part in Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic for HBO Behind the Candelabra as Jerry O’Rourke, Liberace’s former lover and right-hand man on stage; and he currently appears in the feature Lola Versus.
Written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, "Mockingbird Lane" is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about "The Munsters", a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein — and their “plain” cousin that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s...

Chicago – Fans of zombie comedy will soon get the chance to see two beloved blood-and-yuks classics at the largest outdoor theater in Illinois. On Thursday, May 17th, Wbez’s fourth annual “Off-Air Series” will present a “Drive-In Zombie Apocalypse Double Feature” pairing “Zombieland” with “Shaun of the Dead” at the Cascade Drive-In, 1100 E. North Ave., in West Chicago.
“Filmspotting” hosts Adam Kempenaar and Josh Larsen will fill hosting duties, while the first 100 cars through the gate are guaranteed to receive a “ghoulish giveaway.” The mixture of stylish gore and straight-faced satire perfected in both pictures is sure to dazzle audiences when viewed in a vintage venue evocative of grindhouse nostalgia.
Ruben Fleischer’s 2009 hit, “Zombieland,” is a sweetly observed coming-of-age romance punctuated by uproarious bursts of post-apocalyptic mayhem. Rising stars Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone are accompanied by Woody Harrelson, Abigail Breslin and the scene-stealing Bill Murray, whose...

Having trouble sleeping? Watch the 2012 Oscars. How does an industry that's completely geared towards pleasing the masses manage to create an awards show that's zero percent entertaining? We aren't sure, but somehow they did. Last night went to a record breaking boring place despite a heroic effort that included:
multiple camera angles on an iOS app;
a hottie playing the electric violin; and
Emma Stone acting like a normal person even though she had a fabric parrot on her shoulder.
Yeah, we know it was pretty exciting when Sacha Baron Cohen threw the contents of his vacuum cleaner on Ryan Seacrest and pretended it was a dead dictator... but that's just not enough. Everything about the Oscars this year left us wanting more or at least the split screen function so we could simultaneously watch the all star game.
Making the Oscars better, or at least watchable, isn't that complicated.

2012 Oscars: Photos from the Show (111 images so far) | Live Blog | Oscar History The season has finally come to an end. The 2012 Oscars have come to a close and things went pretty much as expected with a few hitches in the technical awards and what some may look at as a surprise win for Meryl Streep for Best Actress over Viola Davis, but even if you had Davis there (as I did) you most likely had Streep as your number two so you weren't exactly blown away. Getting the expected out of the way, The Artist took home a total of five Oscars including Best Picture, Director (Michel Hazanavicius), Actor (Jean Dujardin), Original Score (Ludovic Bource) and Costumes (Mark Bridges), the latter of which is really the only "surprise" win. I had The Artist winning five Oscars but instead of Costumes, I expected that fifth Oscar to come for Film Editing,...

We will be the one of many movie bloggers covering the Academy Awards, why not just hang out with us. Not only will we be covering the winners and losers, but we will also be covering what happens in between. So with no live performances of the Best Song nominees, will the once in a life time Cirque du Soleil show live up to its expectations or will Academy Producers have wished they had the Muppets sing Man or Muppet on the big stage?
Plus you are already here, so why not stay a while. You already read Karen Divorty‘s predictions. Are they in line with yours? Are you playing it safe in your Oscar pool or are you going all out and have Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud beating out The Artist for Best Picture? Hey y'all! Are you ready for some Os-Cars?? This year, Billy Crystal hosts, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Nick Nolte, Christopher Plummer and Martin Scorsese number among the celebrated nominees.... Wtf is it 1985?? Yes, the Academy is going retro, celebrating the history of movies, and not just by lauding "The Artist" and "Hugo." Yeah, there are some newbies and left-field pics, but those kinda feel like shots in the dark at attempting to stay relevant (Rooney Mara, so edgy right now). Who could forget the breaking news from this week that the Academy is only old white men? Total Shocker. But we will attempt to find some fun in the proceedings, and dream of a George Clooney and Tilda Swinton hosted ceremony, where they perform a song and dance routine in matching tuxedos... what, oh sorry I drifted off into a daydream there. Instead, we will try and muddle through...

Right! It’s another caffeine fuelled night ahead of us as we prepare to liveblog the 84th Academy Awards.
The Artist is the favourite to scoop up the awards tonight, which would round off a grand few days for Michel Hazanavicius and his silent film which run rampant through the Cesars and Independent Spirit awards but we may see Martin Scorsese’s Hugo do well with Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Meryl Streep and Viola Davis front runners for the acting awards.
Whether you agree with the relevance and importance of the Oscars it is the one night of the year when a huge amount of people are talking and celebrating movies, and that can only be a good thing. Debate will begin with the first award and continue with every golden envelope opened.

"The Adventures of Tintin" dominated the nominations but it was "Rango" that received the most trophies at the 10th Visual Effects Society (Ves) awards. Stan Lee received the the Lifetime Achievement Award and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull received the George Melies Award. Patton Oswalt hosted the event held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Antonion Banderas, Lou Ferrigno, director Chris Miller, Marc Webb, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson presented awards. But the surprise appearance by Martin Scorsese was the highlight of the evening.
