Sex & Nudity

  • There is no nudity in Happy Tree Friends.
  • Disco Bear occasionally flirts with female characters.
  • Occasionally, two characters will fall in love. In one episode, Cuddles and Giggles kiss. Not graphic or explicit in any way.
  • Lumpy's butt is shown for a few seconds in one or two episodes for comic effect. It is extremely cartoony and not really explicit.

Violence & Gore

  • In Remains to be seen from Season 2 Episode 49, there are so many deaths and violence like Flippy killing the entire crew, everyone turning into death zombies, eating brains, and many more. Flippy breaks off a little big part of Lumpy's arm.
  • The show has a lot of blood and gore but it's not realistic because it is a cartoon disguised for kids.
  • In the pilot episode "Banjo Frenzy", Lumpy decapitates an animal with a banjo, cuts another vertically in half, and beats an animal to death using his banjo. However, his head is still alive.
  • In Season 1, Episode 1, Toothy is slammed into a tree after flying off the merry-go-round, snapping his spinal cord. Giggles is ripped in half by a tree stump after the merry-go-round pole she was holding onto that broke. • In Season 1 Episode 12, Hide and Seek, (A lot of deaths by Flippy) Flippy throws a bowie knife at Woodpecker, Flippy also snaps Toothy's neck and strangles another animal with a piano wire. The most gruesome scene is when Flippy throws a grenade at Petunia after he throws her on a pit of spikes. She is seen screaming in pain.
  • In Season 1, Episode 13, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Russell gets impaled through the skull by a swordfish as the swordfish gets strangled along with a pufferfish that is caught in Russell's throat

  • In Season 1, Episode 15, Mime and Mime Again, Toothy gets the cast stuck in a fan and his whole leg rips apart as we can see the bone snap. The Mime pours medical acid on his leg and it hurts even more. Toothy is obviously screaming in pain as the Mime puts his leg back on and the cast on the fan shreds Toothy to pieces.
  • In Season 1, Episode 16, You're Bakin' Me Crazy, Lumpy trips on a wire and lands on an iron board which flings an iron on Giggles' face sliding down with a red scar. Lumpy knocks a mixer on Giggles' eyes mangling them which is very bloody.
  • Cub is killed many times.
  • All of the episodes feature at least a moderate to severe amount of gore. All the characters have died tragically in at least three episodes. Most of which are gruesome and hard to watch, especially if you're squeamish.
  • The episode "Out on a limb" contains no death but it is still extremely gory.
  • Happy Tree Friends is about cute cartoon animals dying in extremely painful ways such as impaling, burning, drowning, bleeding to death, blown up, being chopped up, dying from torture, being attacked by animals and coughing up organs.
  • Flippy, a character who is the most popular character, is a war veteran and has a mental condition called PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). This turns him into a horrifically savage and unstoppable killing machine when reminded of the war. Once transformed, Flippy will mercilessly kill and even torture other characters and all in rather graphic ways, and the fact that Flippy is based on John Rambo from the titular "Rambo" franchise, it also adds to his psychopathic behavior.
  • Every episode (but one) contains death. Some even contain torture and self-harm.
  • There is only one episode which contains no death, but this one is just as disturbing and violent as the rest.

Profanity

  • None.
  • The animals all talk gibberish.
  • On rare occasions, characters will mumble expletives (Lumpy mumbles "What the fuck?" when a murderous puppy evades the net he had caught him in), and "God damnit!" when someone talks on a bus. They are likely unintentional due to the characters' gibberish language.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Lumpy is seen smoking a cigarette.
  • Pop, the father of the baby squirrel, Cub, often smokes every time, but that's not a fact that can be used in an episode.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In many episodes, the animals can be seen and heard crying in pain fearing for their life which is disturbing and makes you feel bad about the characters.
  • Cub often dies as a result of being neglected by his own father, Pop.
  • Flippy has severe PTSD and whenever he is reminded of the war, it causes him to act violently and kill others whenever he has an episode.
  • Almost all the characters personify different mental disorders such as PTSD, anxiety, OCD, scizophrenia etc. Some viewers may find it offensive.
  • The show can be unsettling at a lot of times because of its violence.
  • Flippy's war flash backs are often shown triggering his PTSD meltdowns such as being held captive and tortured when Shifty and Lifty tie him to a chair while robbing his house on Christmas and the sound of an electric pencil sharpener sounding similar to gunfire.
  • It pretty much goes without saying that the graphic violence is horrifying for some.
  • The violence in the show may be very sad to some people.
  • Some of the deaths are very disturbing.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • The character known as Disco Bear is commonly seen hitting on the female characters of the show. Despite no one showing interest, he continually harasses them throughout the series. However, he doesn't appear in many episodes, and even less so as a starring character.
  • Giggles' skin gets bit by a dog which ends up having her butt exposed.

Violence & Gore

  • There is a very gory death where Sniffles gets controlled by ants and that the ants make him eat an apple with razor blades, causing the ants to make Sniffles put his tongue into a paper shredder then mutilate his tongue as the ants force Sniffles to stab his tail with a nail. Then they make him tie his mutilated tongue on a paddle stick and his guts come flying out of his mouth as he dies right after.
  • All the violence is animated, but it's very graphic.
  • Lammy is schizophrenic and thinks that her pet pickle is killing others when it is really her.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • In one episode, Flippy forces Mime to chug a bottle of alcohol.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Several characters throughout the series suffer anywhere from mild to severe mental or physical disabilities and disorders, which usually aid in their or others' demises.
  • This show contains lots of blood, gore, death, murder, and dismemberment in every episode and can be disturbing for some viewers, especially for viewers who get queazy stomachs at the sight of blood.
  • One particularity disturbing episode called "Tongue in Cheek" has Sniffles being tortured by a group of ants. Through the ants' control of a mind control helmet, Sniffles is forced to put his tongue in a paper shredder, hammer his tail into the ground with a nail, and to pull his internal organs out by using his torn tongue and an oar as a make-shift propeller. Sniffles cries in pain throughout the entire process, and it is disturbing to watch.
  • In one episode, Lumpy is forced to chop his leg off with a metal spoon after getting it trapped under a large tree. He painfully cries in agony through the whole process. This is very upsetting and hard to watch.
