Based upon a Robert Sheckley story first published in Galaxy Science Fiction Magazine, February, 1953.
Detective Ratcliff says sodium morphine is a poison, undetectable once digested. There is no 'sodium morphine', although morphine sulfate is one form of this opioid, and can certainly be detected for days after consumption. Morphine is on the WHO list of essential medicines that all countries should stockpile.
