...like, where was Maggie? They didn't even mention her in the hotel room.

The low star reviews are braindead...

Second to the plot? Where's Maggie? Marge wanting to be cool?

All rubbish.

The Simpsons has never been about continuity or logic-driven plots, and I don't know why some people pretend they do. In one of the older episodes, Homer survived falling down a canyon. Twice! The Simpsons has always had an outlandish element.

That writes off the first two criticisms.

As for the third, this episode has nothing to do with Marge 'wanting to be cool'. It was about her wanting a break from her stressful life as the mother of a hell raiser, a gifted child and a baby. Marge isn't a robot. She loves her kids. Yes. She wants to do her best for them. Yes. She's an inhuman washing and cooking machine that never tires. No!

This is far from the first time we've seen Marge be a normal person. Someone who enjoys a bit of time off. We've seen her appreciate a spa day with Homer in one of the older episodes, for example.

Third criticism done and dusted.

As for the episode in general, it was a pretty fun one. The chase sequence at the mid-way point was creatively executed, and there were some good jokes sprinkled throughout.

7.5/10, rounded up.

One of the best! No Maggie, who cares?!

Warning: Spoilers
I love this episode so much. I don't get why it's so underrated. The 'Catch Me If You Can' sequence was really stylised and fits so well. I watched it several times to truly appreciate it. Bart and Lisa have to work together which made a nice change to constant battling. Marge and Homer laughing at the young couple rang so true. Why wouldn't Marge want a break from her highly demanding, exasperating, selfish children? It wasn't for life, it was one weekend. No one deserves a break more than Marge. Kids shouldn't be the end of your life. People who think the premise of this episode is wrong should wise up. They were probably the highly irritating child their parents were trying to escape from. Also those complaining that Maggie isn't it in, who cares?! Her presence would not have made any difference and would have dumbed it down. Great episode! In my top 10 favourites of all time x

Awesome episode. But I gave it 9 because the plot with Grampa didn't stick out to me. Over all great episode with an awesome plot.

Ok, but yes, where's Maggie?

This is an episode where plot seems to take second place to gags.

Homer wanting badly to get some time away from the kids rang true, but Marge? I'm not so sure.

The 'Catch Me If You Can' style animation sequence was the best bit of a so-so episode.

Hated This Episode to Point of Tears

Warning: Spoilers
As an adult I understand the need for alone time/adult time, but as a person who grew up with parents who made it no secret that my brother & I were burdens who sucked the joy out of their sex life & they couldn't wait for us to be gone & longed for moments without us, this episode hit a nerve & unlike the Simpson kids, my brother & were supposedly wanted & planned...I think adults often forget that children are emotional little sponges, soaking up everything thing we say, all the energy we put out. This episode could've redeemed itself at the end, but it didn't, making a joke out of a very real problem for parents & kids: making time for marital intimacy while not making kids feel like burdens.

Incredibly insulting

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what people who rated this dumpster fire a 10/10 were thinking. This is a painful episode to watch. For one, Marge calls her kids stupid and actually tries to abandon them on multiple occasions. This is (and I emphasize) extremely out-of-character for Marge who is usually a loving and supportive mother who cares deeply for her kids. Secondly, this episode feels very mean-spirited. As a child who grew up with parents who put their marriage before my siblings and I, this was a real punch in the face for me. Throughout the episode, there are several degrading jokes about kids being burdens to their parents. Give me a break. Stop treating kids like their awful, money-sucking demons who take time away from parental sex. It is not the kids' faults they were born. This episode blatantly ignores the emotional impact treating your kids like trash has on the kids themselves. The episode wants me to think the kids were in the wrong for acting like kids, and the parents are in the right for abandoning and lying to them. This episode deserves more hate.

0/10 stars.
