This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.
As both a prequel and sequel to various versions of the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Discovery often includes unexpected easter eggs and references to the entire saga. The latest episode, “Mirrors,” is no exception, as it brings back a famous Star Trek ship, as well as answers questions about a mysterious alien species, which has been around since the 1990s.
From references to the goatee version of Spock, to some deep-cuts from Deep Space Nine, and even a tribble joke, Discovery’s easter eggs in season 5, episode 5 aren’t messing around. Here are the best references and how these shout-outs solve a few mysteries, while suggesting a possible future development for the next Star Trek show.

“I wonder what the Breen look like under those helmets?” asks Ezri Dax in the Deep Space Nine season seven episode “‘Till Death Do Us Part.” That’s a strange question, given that Ezri and Worf had been captured by the Breen and interrogated for some time. But despite their close and uncomfortable contact with the hostile alien species, neither hostage learned much about them.
“They say no one has ever seen one and lived to speak of it,” Worf answers.
Ezri continues in her usual lighthearted manner. “Maybe they’re all furry. It’s supposed to be very cold on Breen.”
“One thing is certain.”
“They’re horrible cooks?”
“They are dangerous,” responds Worf, with even greater gravity than the Klingon usually assumes. “They do not tolerate incursions into their space. During the Second Empire, Chancellor Mow’ga sent a fleet of...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Discovery."
"Star Trek" might represent an idealistic vision of a bolder and brighter future, but the last few seasons of "Discovery" have proven that there will always be bad guys with a penchant for muddying up those ambitions in unexpected ways -- even in the 32nd Century. While the Borg, Romulans, and the warlord Khan often have a stranglehold on the title of "Best 'Trek' villains," one alien species in particular has remained shrouded in mystery for decades. First mentioned in foreboding whispers in "The Next Generation" and finally seen in the flesh (well, so to speak) in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," the Breen have played a significant role throughout the franchise in the years since ... yet Trekkies still had to wait until now to actually see what lies underneath their distinctive helmets.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the strangest of them all? In "Star Trek," that title goes to one of the zaniest concepts ever introduced into the canon: The Mirror Universe. The idea of our alternate selves living completely different lives somewhere out there is no longer the sole domain of perhaps the nerdiest franchise in all of sci-fi, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or the best episode of "Community" ever made. Fans might be surprised to find out that many in the scientific community believe the theory is worth discussion these days. But "Trek" put its own unmistakable fingerprints on the multiverse by emphasizing one in particular that stands at odds with the usual Prime Universe -- one that poses a fundamentally moral dilemma between the paragons of Starfleet we know and love,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 5 “Mirrors.”] It’s far from a meet cute and in no way the start of a rom-com, but Star Trek: Discovery does offer a look at how Moll (Eve Harlow) and L’ak (Elias Toufexis) first crossed paths and what led them to become Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and her crew’s foes in the latest episode. “Mirrors” takes Michael and Book (David Ajala), who has realized Moll is the daughter of his mentor, into a pocket of interdimensional space and onto the abandoned Iss Enterprise, where they try to get through to Moll and L’ak with both pairs after the same thing: the next piece of the puzzle that will unlock the ultimate power everyone’s after this season. This Star Trek: Discovery review contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 5
Star Trek: Discovery reaches the midpoint of its final season with “Mirrors,” an hour that is probably the worst of the five installments we’ve seen so far. To be clear, the episode isn’t necessarily bad, per se, and those who’ve been with this show since the beginning have definitely sat through much worse than this during its run. But it is an hour that, at best, is pretty darn boring, and that can’t help but feel like a colossal waste of time when we have so few hours left with the characters whose stories we care about.
Look, most of us (read: me) expected this season to include a flashback-laden hour that explained the very obviously telegraphed, clearly semi-tragic backstory of the season’s villains, intended to make us reevaluate how we feel about...

Update: A trailer for Never Let Go was shown during the Lionsgate panel at CinemaCon today, and JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was in attendance. Here’s a description of what he saw: “Halle Berry and her two kids are living in a cabin after the world ends. This cabin has a rope/pulley system & they must be attached to you when leaving the house. The monsters/entities (they are very vague on what the threat is but its something that is physical) can’t get you with the rope attached to you and so they (monsters?) are trying to convince one child to doubt the rope safety. They want them to detach and if so, we see that it would put them in grave danger. The kids are twins born in a house that they have never left because of the dangers on the outside. It’s always fun to discuss horror novels that Aren’T Stephen King. No knock on the monster from Maine, he’s the master of horror novels over the last, oh I don’t know, 50 years, for a reason but its nice to not have the show be solely dedicated to his adapted works. He says knowing that he makes the schedule and decides what books to cover. See you in May, Mr. King! Funnily enough, the man actually loved today’s subject to the degree that he called it one of 2006’s best horror novels, but more on that in a little bit. The Ruins (watch it Here) was one of those hot properties by an author whose previous work was an instant success with critics, fans, and studio executives that put it to celluloid. The book came out and just two years later we were given a movie...

This is for some serious drama lovers (in the context of pop music). That’s right, our darling Britney Spears has had her world turned upside down by none other than her former lover, Justin Timberlake. “Wait, didn’t they break up like several years ago?” might be on your mind. Well, apparently time doesn’t heal all wounds, especially when it comes to the sensitive ‘Princess of Pop’.
It has been reported that Spears’ road to recovery has been severely harmed by Timberlake’s recent actions. And we’re not referring to a minor bump in the road here. It’s more of a huge pothole that has resulted in some major setbacks for our Grammy Award-winning pop star.

Justin Timberlake has seemingly responded to Britney Spears, and he appears to be throwing even more shade her way.

Britney took to social media in the aftermath to show love to Justin . She shouted out his two new songs and apologized for “some of the things” included in her memoir The Woman In Me.

Justin Timberlake is back!
In late April, the former ‘Nsync member will be embarking on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour. It will be in support of his upcoming studio album, Everything I Thought I Was, which is set to release on March 15.
The tour is scheduled to begin in Vancouver and make stops in cities like Tulsa, Atlanta and Chicago, before his concluding concert in Lexington, Kentucky, on July 9.
Timberlake seems relaxed about his tour preparations, though. Over the weekend, he co-hosted Saturday Night Live with Dakota Johnson. He also did a Bee Gees sketch of the Barry Gibb Talk Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Last Thursday, Timberlake released his newest song, “Selfish.”
Timberlake made headlines last fall after Britney Spears released her memoir and revealed details about an abortion during her relationship with Timberlake.

Comedy duo Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake are back on Saturday Night Live, and they reprised an iconic skit.
The “Mirrors” singer was billed as the musical guest of the January 27 episode of the late-night show, which Dakota Johnson is hosting.
While Justin is taking the stage to belt out the hits, he’s actually a member of SNL‘s very exclusive Five Timers Club, meaning he’s hosted five times over the years.
He jumped onstage to help Dakota with her opening monologue and volunteered to take over a skit. He got his wish early in the show, and he brought out his pal Jimmy to bring back The Barry Gibbs Show.

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Maniac (2012) was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
More and more remakes. So many remakes. Not all are good, some would even say that most remakes are trash. However, some are good, some are great even. This leads us to this movie, the remake of Maniac (watch it Here) released to the general public in 2013. While some hated it and with reason, others loved it, also with reason. The film is one of those that made changes that worked for the story and helped bring it to the new audience, who then turned around and saw the original. Well, some of them did. However, this remake didn’t exactly hit it big at the box office and it still seems to be finding its audience.

One would think that after the horrors that Mirrors 1 and 2 introduced us to in 2008, people would stop having so many mirrors in their houses.
After revealing Tamerlane to the viewer in the previous episode as the self-obsessed person she was, The Fall of the House of Usher Season 1 Episode 6 brought her story to a conclusion after Verna haunted her through her mirrors and mind, which led to her death.
Like all the Usher children, Tamerlane's character was questionable.
She had peculiar sexual appetites, but that would not be half of it since we learned that she was very obsessed with herself in an unhealthy way.
But as much as she thought highly of herself, she was lonely like all the other children and would keep Bill around to kill that loneliness even if she didn't think much of him.
The horrors began after he had left, and she couldn't sleep continuously,...

One of the most memorable and heartfelt ways to tell someone you're falling in love with them is through a cute love song. Even if you're not into writing your own tune, sharing a Spotify playlist full of songs about soulmates, songs about love at first sight, and songs about saying, "I love you," is a sweet and low-pressure way to get your feelings across. And thankfully, there is a wealth of songs about falling in love out there - across all genres - to show someone just how much you care for them.
The best love song, however, is the tune that resonates the most with you and your partner. So whether you prefer a slow, romantic ballad, a sexy song, or a song that's more upbeat, your love interest is certain to be falling just as hard for you after giving it a listen.

When fans get to vote for the winners at an awards show, it rarely pays to bet against Taylor Swift. She has one of the biggest fan bases in music, and what’s more, they’re one of the most reliably motivated fan bases in the industry too. So can anyone beat her for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards? Ever?
Well, Swift does hold the record for the most wins in the category. In a race where it’s rare even to win twice, she has prevailed three times, for “Bad Blood” featuring Kendrick Lamar (2015), “You Need to Calm Down” (2019), and her short film “All Too Well” (2022). First must come the consumer warning. I read this digitally, which means flipping through the pages would have been more cumbersome than with a physical book, and I took the “152 pages” as an indication of the length of the story.
Reader, I was misled.
Only the End of the World Again is a 48-page story, bulked out by an sketchbook section exactly twice its size that shows the thumbnail layouts and un-lettered final inks for each page side-by-side, presumably for fans of art to take a magnifying glass to them and make various low appreciative noises in the back of their throats for the next several hours. I did not do so; that’s not how I read books.

A series premiere, a long-awaited season return and a bevy of great movies are new on HBO and HBO Max this month. May 1 marks the series debut of “White House Plumbers,” the new limited series from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel that chronicles the Watergate break-in and fallout. That show airs on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. Then on May 4, the comedy “The Other Two” returns for its third season on HBO Max.
The sixth season of the animated series “Rick and Morty” will be available to stream on HBO Max starting on May 11, and in terms of library titles the “Men in Black” trilogy, the comedies “Step Brothers” and “Some Like It Hot” and Jonah Hill’s directorial debut “Mid90s” all come to HBO and HBO Max this month.

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. As the company notes in its press release for May though, that change doesn’t take effect until May 23. What follows is a list of everything coming to HBO Max through May 22.
The biggest releases this month are two TV series that arrive at the beginning of May. White House Plumbers is a comedic take on the infamous Watergate scandal starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. That will be followed by season 3 of The Other Two, which I personally consider the funniest show on television. Catch up now before it’s too late!

HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.
Check out the “White House Plumbers” trailer:
The platform will head to the pitch on May 16 with a three-part soccer docuseries “Angel City.” The series goes behind the scenes with the groundbreaking Los Angeles-based professional women’s soccer team, Angel City Football Club. Timberlake and Timbaland have been strong collaborators ever since the boy band singer decided to go solo in the early 2000s.
Timbaland produced Timberlake’s smash 2002 single “Cry Me a River”, as well as “SexyBack”, “Mirrors” and more.
Asked what the new record sounds like, Timbaland said, “It’s fun Justin — it’s like [their 2006 blockbuster collaboration] FutureSex/LoveSounds but nothing too heavy, just giving you what you expect from us.

This post contains spoilers for the available episodes of "Yellowjackets" season 2.
"Yellowjackets" returned for season 2 last week with a vengeance, and episode 2 picks up right where things left off. In case you somehow forgot, Shauna ate Jackie's ear, and now she's dealing with the psychological aftermath. She's still hallucinating visions of Jackie, who tell Shauna that the bear meat is almost gone and the team is going to be in serious trouble if things don't change. Lest we forget, we aren't watching a ghost of Jackie, this is purely a manifestation of Shauna's grief, so everything Jackie says is an extension of how Shauna really feels. The subtext through their entire conversation is Shauna performing mental gymnastics to justify the inevitable — they're going to have to eat Jackie to survive.
Except the devastating delusions don't stop here. Jackie and Shauna are also bonding, with Shauna doing Jackie's hair to cover up her missing ear,...

There are a ton of bloody films out there, some of them more fun than others. Many of them were clearly made for gore hounds, and some come from pretty surprising places. Of course, the goriest films ever made change all the time as new movies keep aiming at beating that record, so every year, this could be a whole new list. These are a few of our favorite films with the highest amount of fake blood used during production:
Braindead aka Dead Alive (1992)
This horror comedy from Peter Jackson is a longtime favorite for many horror fans for the sheer amount of blood and gore seen throughout the film. The ear falling into a bowl of soup may be the grossest scene in the film, it’s definitely not the bloodiest by far. One of the most famous gore sequences in horror cinema comes from this film is the one where lead Lionel,...

Blunt: Amy Smart, Billy Zane, and more star in psychological thriller from Deadly Illusions director
Last year’s Deadly Illusions was the fourth feature directed by Anna Elizabeth James, but her first thriller. When it was released through the Netflix streaming service, it was the #1 movie on the service worldwide for eight days straight. So it makes sense that James’ fifth feature is also a thriller. This one is called Blunt and stars Amy Smart (Mirrors), Billy Zane (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight), Matt Davis (Terror of Dracula), Greer Grammer (Awkward), and Ne-Yo (Red Tails).
Smart’s character is
a single mother who wakes up to find herself hogtied and held captive at her country vacation rental by an unknown assailant. In a race against time, she must piece together clues from the previous guests to find out who assaulted her, and hopefully survive the ordeal.
Deadline reports that Voltage Pictures is handling global sales on Blunt and will be presenting it to potential buyers immediately.

This summer, Donald Trump is taking something that began during his presidency to a whole new level. His dalliance with content connected to QAnon — the deranged pro-Trump conspiracy theory that features tales of powerful Democrats running a pedophilic secret society — has gone from a game of footsie to what appears to be an open embrace. But if you ask members of the ex-president’s inner orbit why this is happening now, you get a mix of responses, including abject confusion.

“Taylor Swift was the big winner” is a phrase you’ll find yourself using often if you cover music awards, and indeed Taylor Swift was the big winner at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, handed out on Sunday night, August 28. She claimed Video of the Year, Best Long Form Video, and Best Direction for her 15-minute “All Too Well” short film. By winning, she made history in more ways than one. Check out the complete list of winners here.
“All Too Well” is the longest video to win Video of the Year
At 14 minutes, 55 seconds, “All Too Well” shatters the record for the longest winner in history. The previous record-holder was Justin Timberlake‘s “Mirrors,” which came in at 8 minutes, 20 seconds. The original “All Too Well” ran about five-and-a-half minutes when she originally released it in 2012, but she expanded it to 10 minutes for the re-recording featured on her “Red (Taylor...

The 2022 MTV Video Music Award nominations were announced on Tuesday, July 26, and among the top contenders is Taylor Swift. Specifically, she picked up five nominations including Video of the Year for the epic 15-minute short film that she herself wrote and directed for her extended 10-minute version of her song “All Too Well.” Will bigger turn out to be better when fans vote for the winners? If she prevails in the top category again, she’d make history in more ways than one.

The new year is continuing apace at Hulu. The streamer’s list of new releases for February 2022 is highlighted by one very interesting project.
Pam and Tommy is set to premiere on Feb. 2. Perhaps the Groundhog Day release date is intentional as the show will cover a particular moment of celebrity, sex, and exploitation from the early ’90s that seems to have repeated itself over and over. Sebastian Stan and Lily James star as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson and the series follows the events and fallout of their homemade sex tape being stolen and unleashed on a nascent internet. If nothing else, getting the promo photos of Stan and James as the ’90s stars was worth it.

In the 10 years since the release of Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Drive,” the lives of two key figures behind its pivotal soundtrack, Johnny Jewel and Cliff Martinez, have changed for the better, thanks to the film.
“Before ‘Drive’ coming out, I was standing by the freeway with a cardboard sign that said, ‘Will score for food,’” jokes “Drive’s” composer, Martinez, a sometimes drummer in Red Hot Chili Peppers, and one of Steven Soderbergh’s go-to composers. “I wasn’t exactly struggling, but I would go for months without work. My popularity ebbs and flows, but for the most part, I’m much more popular than I was before 2011.”
“For those of us in the underground, ‘Drive’ was huge,” says Jewel, who has two key songs on the soundtrack — “Tick of the Clock,” with his former band, the Chromatics, and “Under Your Spell” with his other band, Desire.
“’Drive’ is a niche film,...

Exclusive: We can tell you first that French filmmaker Alexandre Aja is set to direct the horror feature Elijah for Searchlight Pictures as the newly owned Disney label continues a streak with genre fare following last year’s Ready or Not and Scott Cooper and Guillermo del Toro’s Antlers.
The Last Witch Hunter scribe Cory Goodman sold the original pitch to Searchlight before Aja came in to direct, and rewrite with Gregory Levasseur (Mirrors). Pic follows a young boy who invites a mysterious man into his home, believing the stranger to be the key to saving his sick mother. As increasingly disturbing things start to happen around his home, the boy soon realizes that the sinister stranger is not the savior he claims to be.
Producers are David Goyer and Keith Levine of Phantom Four (The Night House) and Adam Goldworm of Aperture Entertainment.
