NEW YORK -- CBS and The Young & the Restless lead nominations for the 35th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
CBS netted 56 nominations when they were announced Wednesday, 17 for "The Young & the Restless," which was nominated for best daytime drama among others. PBS received 50 nominations, including 13 for Sesame Street. Two other programs, Guiding Light and One Life to Live, also received 13 nominations, while As the World Turns received 12.
The Daytime Emmys will be handed out on June 20 from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and televised on ABC.
ABC received 39 nominations, including seven for ABC's chatfest The View.
The View, which broadcast the announcement live Wednesday morning, came away with nominations for talk show/entertainment and for its co-hosts, among other categories. The View has only won once for best show, in 2003. Ellen has won every year since 2004 and last year won a total of six Daytime Emmys.
But this year's split of the talk-show category into two awards could shake things up. Ellen, Rachael Ray and The View are vying in talk show/entertainment category; talk show/informative noms are for PBS' A Place of Our Own; Dr. Phil and The Tyra Banks Show. Syndicated shows received 28 nominations for Daytime Emmys.

NEW YORK -- TruTV has canceled Star Jones Reynolds' legal-focused talk show after a six-month run.
The talk show ran 3 p.m. weekdays. The last episode will be today.fri "Arrest & Trial" will run in that slot
"Due to the rebranding and programming refocus of the network, truTV and Star Jones Reynolds have mutually agreed to cease production of the Star Jones show," said a memo from Marc Juris, executive vp and GM of the channel formerly known as Court TV.
The show, which began in August, showcased Reynolds' work as a TV host and former lawyer. She will remain with the network as a contributor to the channel's trial coverage.
Reynolds, who was an assistant district attorney and senior assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, N.Y., began her broadcast career with Court TV in 1991. She also has worked for NBC and Inside Edition and became co-host of ABC chatfest The View in 1997.
She left The View in 2006 after her contract wasn't renewed.

NEW YORK -- It's no go for Rosie.
A possible deal for a one-hour talk show hosted by Rosie O'Donnell collapsed late Wednesday, days after the onetime moderator on The View said over the weekend at a Miami book fair that she was talking to MSNBC.
O'Donnell's blog and other sources confirmed that plans for MSNBC to have her host a talk show at 9 p.m. weeknights fell apart following days of negotiations.
"We were close to a deal almost done," O'Donnell wrote on her blog late Wednesday under the name "Ro." Negotiations continued late into Wednesday, but it was clear by evening that there would be no deal and no show.
"My career as a pundit is over b4 it began," O'Donnell wrote.
O'Donnell seemed to blame herself for the collapse, saying that her letting it slip in Miami caused "panic."
A show starring O'Donnell would have given MSNBC a liberal counterpunch to the rest of cable news fare that includes CNN's Larry King Live and Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes." The channel, which has gotten some lift from Countdown With Keith Olbermann at 8 p.m., hasn't seen as much success with either Scarborough Country or a talk show hosted by former MSNBC general manager Dan Abrams.

NEW YORK -- Rosie O'Donnell, the former moderator of The View, is in negotiations to return to television with her own weeknight talk show on MSNBC.
O'Donnell left View in the spring after a stormy one-year tenure and has since been courted by other networks. If a deal is reached -- and one is not at all certain -- O'Donnell might get the 9 p.m. slot that would put her up against Fox News Channel's Hannity & Colmes and CNN's Larry King Live. News of the talks was first reported in the New York Times.
"It's far from a done deal", said an executive familiar with some of the discussions. Money apparently is one of the sticking points.
Neither of the two most recent MSNBC counterprograms, Live With Dan Abrams or Scarborough Country, could make much headway at 9 p.m. against Hannity or Larry King. Abrams relinquished his post as GM of MSNBC to focus on the9 p.m. program that he inherited.
MSNBC declined comment; a representative of O'Donnell couldn't be reached Monday.

Late-night comedy shows such as NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Saturday Night Live as well as Comedy Central's The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report will go dark starting Monday as a result of the writers strike.
Each of those writing-intensive programs, along with NBC's Late Night With Conan O'Brien, are immediately going into repeats. It wasn't clear Friday afternoon what the plans are for other late-night shows including CBS' Late Show With David Letterman or The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson. It's understood that contingency plans are in place for ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, but the specifics are unknown.
Meanwhile, The View, ABC's late-morning chatfest, will continue with its regular schedule.
" 'The View' will continue, without interruption," a spokesman said.
"SNL" with guest host Brian Williams is scheduled to go on as normal Saturday night but will go into repeats starting next weekend.
"Late-night is what gets hit the hardest," said Nancy Huck, a senior buyer at Starcom Media Vest's Spark Communications. "It becomes rerun city." She and other buyers didn't think that it would drastically hurt the late-night programs in the short run as some of them might have gone into repeats as the holidays neared.

NEW YORK -- Rosie who?
No one at ABC Daytime may be thinking that now, but Whoopi Goldberg's first week as moderator of The View is certainly looking good. Her debut week tied Rosie O'Donnell's with a 1.2 rating for the highest premiere week ever in the 11 seasons of The View, according to data released Thursday by Nielsen Media Research.
Its average of 3.5 million viewers was only 2% off last year's premiere week, the first week of O'Donnell's stormy tenure. O'Donnell left the show this year and was replaced by Goldberg, who has brought a less caustic vibe to the show.
ABC said the daytime chatfest is back in the top five of daytime programs and up 42% from the week before. It also was up 12% among women 18-49 with 980,000 in that demographic.
And there's more growth for View in the first few days of Sherri Shepherd's tenure. The new co-host joined the show Monday. View averaged 3.9 million viewers Monday compared with last season's second-week average of 3.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

NEW YORK -- And then there were five.
Sherri Shepherd was announced Monday morning as a co-host of The View, ABC's late-morning chatfest. Shepherd will replace Star Jones Reynolds, who left the show last year.
Shepherd, an actress (Beauty Shop and Less Than Perfect) and comedian, will join executive producer/twice-weekly co-host Barbara Walters, newly installed moderator Whoopi Goldberg and co-hosts Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
ABC had strongly hinted last week that it would soon have a co-host to replace Reynolds and before Hasselbeck goes on maternity leave in November.
Shepherd is no stranger to The View. She was part of the show's tryout period this season to search for a new co-host, and she has been a guest host of the program 23 times.

NEW YORK -- The View won't have an empty seat for long.
ABC confirmed Tuesday that the late-morning gabfest would have a fifth co-host by the end of this year. The View celebrated its 11th season premiere, along with new moderator Whoopi Goldberg, on Tuesday.
"We have a person in mind," executive producer Bill Geddie said Tuesday afternoon after the program had wrapped with only one guest, Danny DeVito and the requisite talk by Goldberg, creator/part-time co-host Barbara Walters and co-hosts Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Geddie said the new co-host could be on the set by the time Hasselbeck takes maternity leave in November.
Geddie said that he thought Goldberg's first time as moderator went well and by the second segment she had come into her own. He noted that it was no accident that the show had picked a performer with 25 appearances on The View, including two previous as moderator.
"I think she had a great first day," Walters said after the show.

NEW YORK -- After a rocky and ultimately ill-fated year with Rosie O'Donnell, The View officially announced Oscar-winning actress-comedian Whoopi Goldberg as its new moderator.
Terms of the deal were not announced for Goldberg, a frequent guest and guest host of the daytime chatfest. She will join the cast Sept. 4 for the official start of the show's 11th season on ABC.
"She's brilliant, she's funny, she's an enormous talent," said View co-host/executive producer Barbara Walters in introducing Goldberg to the audience on Wednesday's program.
Goldberg said she was happy to join View and joked that she had watched it "once or twice."
"I love this show. I love coming on it," Goldberg told Walters. "I love hanging out with you guys, so this is a big old thrill for me."
Goldberg replaces O'Donnell, whose single season as moderator was marked by controversy and bickering between co-hosts and a feud with Donald Trump over the Miss USA pageant.
O'Donnell replaced Meredith Vieira, who moved in 2006 to co-anchor NBC's Today.

The effects of controversial co-host Rosie O'Donnell were felt during the May sweep on ABC's daytime show The View, which had its best May sweep ever last month, delivering a 1.6 rating/12 share and an average audience of 1 million women 18-49. This marks the show's highest delivery in the demo for a May sweep in its 10-year history and also marks the first May sweep ever for the talker to rank among the top five daytime shows. Among total viewers, the show averaged 3.8 million, its best May sweep performance ever and up 27% compared with May 2006.
NEW YORK -- Days after an on-air blowup with co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck, ABC said Friday afternoon that Rosie O'Donnell would be leaving The View earlier than expected.
O'Donnell would no longer appear on the morning talkfest, Disney-ABC Daytime Television Group President Brian Frons confirmed. O'Donnell will appear on Monday's The View as it was a taped episode; Tuesday's live episode won't feature her.
"We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave," Frons said. "Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to 'The View' and wish her well."
The last days of O'Donnell's less than year-long run at The View were perhaps even more controversial than than earlier when she engaged in a public spat with Donald Trump over Miss USA Tara Conner.

NEW YORK -- CBS and two of its long-running daytime dramas, "Guiding Light" and "As the World Turns", garnered the most nominations Wednesday for the 34th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
CBS received 57 nominations, well ahead of PBS' 38 and ABC's 36, which were the only networks to receive more than 16. Syndicated programming received 53 noms. PBS received 20 nominations Wednesday and collected the other 18 during last month's Children's Emmy nominations.
"The Price Is Right" host Bob Barker, 83, who is retiring in June after more than three decades with the show, has a shot at an 18th Daytime Emmy Award with a nomination for outstanding game-show host.
The awards ceremony will be held Friday, June 15, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland and broadcast live in primetime on CBS. A Creative Arts Award ceremony will take place a day earlier.
"Guiding Light", the longest-running soap in production (it went to air on TV in 1952), received the most noms of any show with 17, while "As the World Turns" (which debuted in 1956) followed with 16. Three shows -- PBS' "Sesame Street", "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and CBS' "The Young & the Restless" -- each received 12 mentions. ABC trio "General Hospital", "One Life to Live" and "The View" received 10 apiece.
For the first time in more than 20 years, "Live With Regis and Kelly" (formerly "Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee") didn't make the talk show or talk show host categories. This was intentional on the part of the show, which instead entered a new Daytime Emmy category of outstanding morning program. It's open to shows that air before noon. Talk shows can either enter the existing categories or the new morning-program category but not both.
Nominations for the new award will be announced sometime in April. The Emmy will go to the producers and the hosts, which means that "Today" co-host Meredith Vieira might add a second nom to go with her nomination for best game show host.
"Guiding Light", CBS' "The Bold and the Beautiful", "One Life to Live" and "Young & the Restless" received nominations for outstanding drama series. "Jeopardy", "Price" and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" received noms in the game-show category.
Talk show nominations went to "Dr. Phil", "Ellen DeGeneres Show", "The Tyra Banks Show", "Rachael Ray" and "The View". Lifestyle program nominations went to Food Network's "Barefoot Contessa" and "Paula's Home Cooking", A&E's "Sell This House", PBS' "This Old House" and the syndicated "Martha Stewart Show".
Nominations for lead actress in a drama series are Maura West in "As the World Turns", Crystal Chappell and Kim Zimmer in "Guiding Light" and Jeanne Cooper and Michelle Stafford in "Young & the Restless."
Lead actor nominations were given to Michael Park in "As the World Turns", Anthony Geary in "General Hospital", Ricky Paull Goldin in "Guiding Light" and Peter Bergman and Christian LeBlanc in "Young & the Restless."
Game-show host nods went to Barker, Vieira ("Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"), Ben Bailey (Discovery Channel's "Cash Cab"), Alex Trebek ("Jeopardy!"), Pat Sajak ("Wheel of Fortune").
Vieira's former colleagues at "View" -- Barbara Walters, Rosie O'Donnell, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck -- shared a nomination in the talk-show host category along with Ellen DeGeneres, Rachael Ray, Phil McGraw ("Dr. Phil"), Lisa Rinna and Ty Treadway ("Soap Talk") and Tyra Banks ("Tyra Banks Show").
Others networks nominated were Discovery Kids (16, including one announced Wednesday), NBC (15), Kids' WB! (10), Food Network (seven), Nickelodeon (five), A&E (four), Discovery Channel (three) and two each for Cartoon Network, Fox, Noggin and Soap Net. One each went to Animania, Disney Channel, HGTV, Lifetime, MTV, TBN, TLC and Travel Channel. Warnerbros.com earned a nom.
Several of the noms, particularly in the children's categories, were previously announced.
