An good spin-off of the best WWII series ever
hchais14 May 2007
This game is pretty good, but I liked both Call of Duty 2's better. But this was still a good game. The only thing that I think is bad about it is that there only 13 levels. In Call of Duty, there were 27, and in Call of Duty: Big Red One, there were 14. I would have given this a ten, but I took one star off for that. I also took one star off because at first, the levels seem like they are long, but after you play them for a while, you start to get bored and you realize that the levels aren't that long. I took another star off for that. But the rest of the game is pretty good. It has a really good story that follows the campaign that followed D-Day, and the battles through France between the Americans, British, Scottish, French, Polish, and Canadians against the Germans. It's a pretty good game that, I thought, was kind of a sad ending. Another good thing about it is that instead of fighting and finishing one campaign at a time, you switch off between missions between factions. This was a pretty good game. 8/10.

Gets better with age.
DustinRahksi21 February 2013
This was the very first game I bought for my PS2, costing an outrageous 70 dollars, it's a good thing they don't cost that much anymore. Is it just me or was Call of Duty games fairly enjoyable on the PS2, they may of not been the greatest, but they had a certain charm to them.

The PS2: The game-play was much better than previous entries on the system. The game goes by much faster than the PC counterparts, and get's completely ridiculous with nonstop explosions and gun fights, this would latter become the standard format for the series. You get the regular WW2 guns that you know and love, the only new gun would be the trench gun, but you barely get to use it. The close courter battles were a nice edition, the best one is when you fight an enemy solider with a knife and grenade. There was a mission where you have to drive to your checkpoints, there is a few mini games where you have to set up some explosive charges, a little more variety here. The game is pretty good, but this feels less realistic, and more for young kids that could care less for what happened during WW2 and more about nonstop action.

The PS3: Since I only had it for a short time, this is going to be brief. It's just a better looking and more enhanced version of the game. There was one notable problem, the game glitched out at the start of a mission and you could walk beyond the boundaries and invisible walls, thats the first time I have ever got out of the map in CoD single player.

I have grown to like this game as time passes, it reminds me of a simpler time during the series, back when I used to care for the single player campaign. Check it out if you are interested.

Under-apppreciated
isaacwest-660011 March 2023
With so many installments into the storied Call of Duty franchise, it's easy to overlook older games, perhaps most especially Call of Duty 3. Despite this, it remains one of my personal favorites. The story was very good and took on a major battle of the Second World War that isn't always explored. The diversity in the campaign was the real strength: you play as an American infantryman and also a Canadian one, but also an SAS operative working with the French and a Polish tanker. The story isn't perfect and with four different storylines isn't properly fleshed out, but it's full of memorable characters and so many different things to do while giving you a great historical insight into the Battle of St. Lô. The weakest part of the game is the gameplay - this usually warrants a larger punishment but it's not bad gameplay at all, just clunky and doesn't age well.

Good, but CoD 2: Big Red One was a bit better...
general-melchett27 January 2007
Call of Duty 3 was a very eagerly awaited game - I wanted it from the moment it came out. And though I wasn't disappointed with it when I got it, I couldn't help feeling that it wasn't exactly top notch. This may be down to the rather weakly-scripted cut scenes - the French, Scottish and British accents were a bit too thick and fake sounding and kind of made fun. And you couldn't help feeling that it was a bit unrealistic with jeeps flying through the air and elite Wehrmacht troops being slaughtered by peasants without armour. The maps are huge and the graphics are more impressive this time round, but the missions aren't hugely varied - what happened to the air and sea missions? (Although I haven't completed it yet, so I could be proved wrong.) The Germans are more aggressive this time round and the game does have a few different scenarios - as testified to by the occasional hand-to-hand fight with German soldiers and smoke grenades in your weapon arsenal. The game is also improved by the lack of health bar - in a sense, you have infinite health, but this must be utilised to the best of your ability. But this also makes the game a bit easier and less of a challenge. CoD 3 is a fun game and worthy to be called a Call Of Duty addition - but it's not perfect. They'll probably make a Call of Duty 4 before long - this could involve some fighting from the Axis perspective, but we'll have to make the most of this before then... 7/10

The best ww2 game I've ever played!!
deadrisingrocks20 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
(sorta spoilers, rumours about COD4) Wow, this game is really cool. The sounds, visuals, the game play in general. Im really addicted to it! especially on xbox live!!! Im trying my best at fighting the war on veteran difficulty and its really hard, its not better than Gears Of War but this game is defintately my favourite xbox 360 game!!! My favourite character is Huxley, i just think he's really cool, i think medal of honour airbourne might do well but not as good as this, and that Hour of victory looks very good but again i just don't think it will reach call of duty's league. I've read about COD 4 and that its supposed to be set in the Iraq war, so this could be a change in the, what i think is the best ongoing game series going.

P.s my gamer tag is ObNoXiUsJaMbOrE, Ill look forward to an online game with you all!

Cons 1. Gunshot sounds aren't realistic 2. Some guns aren't controllable, poor damage and low accuracy P.S MP40, KAR98K, STG44, etc etc

My conclusion for this game: Still playable and enjoyful, it never gets boring.

Great game, but too short
furiso15 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This is the best FPS game I have ever played. It has great graphics and excellent gameplay. The cutscenes are top notch but the accents were a bit too much. The bad thing is that the levels were too short. I think it was a level where you were playing as the British, that level took me 10 mins to complete. And the whole game only took me 6 hours too complete, I don't know about you, but that is really quick as top quality games like Prince of Persia or MEdal Of Honour usually takes me around 10 or 20 hours too complete. The controls for the level where you had to row the boat could've been made easier as it was virtually impossible to do. And they took out the air missions which were a bit disappointing, but all in all, it is a great game.

Most immersing game I've played so far !
phd-513 March 2007
This is the most immersing game I've ever played. The graphics are awesome, the action appears realistic and you do have to fight to the death. I like the fact that this game takes place during the Allied push to rid the world of those dreaded Nazis. The only reason I can't give it 10 out of 10 is that the missions are, in my opinion, too short. It seems that you start a level and quickly finish it even at the hardest setting. Well, I guess I'm better than I think. Mind you, I also play on-line with friends every Monday night. All in all, extraordinary game with punch ! Also, it was great to actually see a King Tiger tank in the game giving it a more realistic feel to it as in reality, the German forces did possess some units of that dreaded armor in the field. Contrary to some other comments I've read about the game in general, I didn't find the various accents throughout it to be annoying or anything. Well, that's just me, I Guess !

Stop the horror...
Kzgirl917 January 2007
I've always liked the Call of duty games. But I totally raised my expectations after Call of duty 2. It was realistic in every matter. But the usual way it worked was one game on Pc, one on console. and the one on PC rocked and console was bad to Okay. Then COD 2 came out for Xbox 360 and it became one crappy game for current and one awesome for next gen. But then--then they had to go and release COD 3 for all consoles. The same stupid game. This game is a lot worse than COD 2. Guns aren't realistic and AI is scripted. This game is like a cheap downsize for the COd series. It is still a moderately fun thrill ride with decent current gen graphics and great next gen graphics but my expectations are too high for this cheap add on to the COD series. I believe this was nothing more than a rushed pay off to make some cash. It's fun but not good enough for me. Good: Fun thrill ride story, Great graphic (XB360 & PS3) Bad: Cheap rush, infinity ward didn't make it, activision did.... Same: All the Ps2, Xbox and now current gen call of duties. Stick to The Pc games and the Call of duty 2 for XB360. 5/10 for low upgrade. This is supposed to be a sequel. The only new thing is the interactiveness ingame fighting and etc. Enjoy! I didn't....

Let's have us another WWII game!
johanloth26 February 2008
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, don't you be fooled by my summary:I really am a WWII FPS shooter nerd, as I've played them all. Knowing this, it's easy for me to compare this title with other games like MOH, Hour of Victory and the rest of the COD titles. COD 3 does finally what no other game does: not include D-Day, which has been done over and over again. Instead it focuses on the events occurring in end June/begin July 1944. The graphics and shading are excellent: the mud on the boots, the smoke on a destroyed panzer, nice movies. Everybody, like here on IMDb, shares the same opinion: the accents are too much ( Scottish accents are a Sean Connery overdose) and the levels are way too short. It took me less than 6 hours to finish the game on 'normal' difficulty. COD 3 tries to give the player an 'open field' game where you decide which path to take. But here again, it fails and you, as usual, just go from point A to B. Weapons and locations are good: although the sounds of the weapons is historically incorrect it gives the player a rush: yes, the M1 Garand still is a great rifle. In comparison with other games, it lacks behind titles like COD2 (which truly is an excellent game). It leaves the gamer wondering if this title was rushed out the developers office and it is a too pretentious game. With others words, it is too much stuff in a too short game.

One of the Worst Call of Duty's
etlc19 March 2024
Literally out of All of the Call of Duty's, this one is literally one of the worst and that is saying something properly just as bad if not worse that Call of Duty WWII. The AI is incompetent beyond belief, there are to many glitches, cut scenes are pointless-can't even skip through them; played through it once and never will play it again, I just own it now and let it collect dust on my shelf just to say I own the complete collection of Call of Duty games. Would easily have no problem telling people to take a hard pass on this one, because you are not missing anything if you skip over it, don't waste your time or money.
