“Superstore,” 8:30 p.m., NBC
Episode Title: “Tornado”
Network Synopsis: Everyone in the store is on edge as Glenn (Mark McKinney) tries to figure out which employees to lay off. Jonah (Ben Feldman) struggles with the fallout of an admission he made to Amy (America Ferrera), Garrett (Colton Dunn) and Dina (Lauren Ash) spar, and Mateo (Nico Santos) forms an alliance to keep his job. Meanwhile, a tornado warning goes into effect at the worst possible time, forcing the staff into uncomfortable pairings. Nichole Bloom also stars.
Why You Should Watch: It’s an epic moment for the series, which has evolved nicely into one of broadcast television’s most enjoyable ensemble comedies. While the show leans into serialization more than other sitcoms, that doesn’t mean you can’t jump into “Superstore” for just this one episode and enjoy it. (And you should jump into it. It’s great.

The 26th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (Psiff) will present David Oyelowo with the Breakthrough Performance Award, Actor for his critically acclaimed performance as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Ava DuVernay.s Selma at its annual Awards Gala. The Gala will also present awards to previously announced honorees Richard Linklater, Julianne Moore, Rosamund Pike, Eddie Redmayne, J.K. Simmons, Reese Witherspoon and the cast of The Imitation Game. Presented by Cartier, and hosted by Mary Hart, the Awards Gala will be held Saturday, January 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The Festival runs January 2-12.

The BBC's new two-part drama Dive debuted to nearly 1.5 million on Thursday night, according to the latest viewing figures. Created by BAFTA award-winner Dominic Savage (Freefall, Born Equal), the coming-of-age drama focuses on a teenage love story between an aspiring Olympic diver and her lover. The drama's first part averaged 1.42m (6.5%) on BBC Two in the 9pm hour, with a further 72k (0.3%) watching the programme on BBC HD. On BBC One, Fake Britain pulled in 3.69m (20.5%) between 7pm and 7.30pm, before Outtake TV appealed to 2.63m (12%) in the half hour from 8.30pm. Later on the channel, Traffic Cops marginally won the 9pm hour, with 3.55m (16.4%) watching the show compared to 3.22m (14.8%) for ITV1's Homes From Hell, which was down 520k week-on-week.
