With a man like Bill, you don't play games.

When a man likes Bill Stillfield falls in love, it seems to be forever, even if it is with a woman who died. As he finds himself getting closer to Charlene, he becomes confused by these growing emotions and after great debate within himself decides that he can't see her anymore. It takes the widowed Julia to open up Bill's heart to see what he'd be missing out on if he didn't continue to see Charlene, and the stage is set for the next stage of their relationship.

One of the things that Designing Women did really well was honestly get into the relationships between the genders whether it be women together, men and women and male friendships. The snark and catty lines were often very funny, but the writing was more profound when it focused on what lies at the heart of the matter, how human beings relate together in an understanding and caring manner.

Fans of the show always remember Julia's rants, but they tend to forget everything else other than Dixie Carter's demand to sing a song after a termination. When scenes like this featuring Julia in a tender and caring manner are shown, it really gives an indication of the great lady behind the declaration of her passionate views. Douglas Barr shows off a sweetness in that scene that makes the audience appreciate his pain all the more, and this ends up being one of the most romantic episodes of the series, one in the final moments that require kleenex.
