Fear can be a strange thing. It can pop up at unexpected moments, and for unexplainable reasons. While some people can have irrational fears of things like clowns and spiders, there are a select few who fear places meant to be a safe haven for people in their time of need. A place that always seems to garner a mixed feeling of either dread or serenity is a hospital. They’re big buildings full of many individuals, and yet they always feel so empty. It could be the dull colors, the odd silence, or the cold that drifts down its many dark hallways that makes one uneasy. Or maybe it’s the aroma of rubbing alcohol and latex that triggers an unpleasant past experience for a person. All of these things are enough to make one think of a horror movie, because they are the perfect setting for disastrous events.

To all those agents who secretly dream of directing... I can't think of a Hollywood journey like Tony Krantz's. The son of Beverly Hills novelist Judith Krantz, he went from head of primetime packaging at CAA (where he helped put together ER, The West Wing, Twin Peaks, Beverly Hills 90210) and then CEO of Imagine Television (where he exec produced Felicity and 24 among other shows with Jj Abrams, Peter Berg, Aaron Sorkin, and David Lynch) to directing 3 1/2 years ago. Since then, he's helmed 3 films. The first two, Sublime (a surreal horror flicks) and Otis (a horror comedy), were put out by Warner Bros Home Video under the Raw Feed genre label. Now he's wrapped directing his first theatrical which has just landed distribution with Anchor Bay after a competitive bidding situation. Titled The Big Bang, the stylish noir indie was produced by Richard Rionda's Hannibal Pictures and Krantz's own Flame Ventures...

Teaser trailer for the psychological drama movie The Artifice
"Imagine if you had the ability to see every tiny connection, every movement, every decision, every concept, and every consequence. Would you embrace this gift or try to hide it would you be able to use it without effect or would this knowledge change your life forever?"
Stylistically the promo reminds me of Jamin Winans' Ink and Tony Krantz's Sublime, mixed with a touch of Mamoru Oshii's Avalon. We don't have a lot more info on this project other than it's gained nearly a million fans on facebook on the strength of the intrigue created by the promo, but the crew behind it is going to send further details over.

Sublime is the first feature directed by Tony Krantz who is best known for his work as a producer. The film like Rest Stop (which he produced) is another production from the Raw Feed stable. How ever unlike its stalemate which draws on the generic and mixes the supernatural with gore porn pretty unsuccessfully, Sublime is an all together different Beast. Sublime I am pretty sure will be one of those "love it or hate it films" and although it’s a "horror" movie I get the feeling a lot of the hate will come from horror fans confused by its complete failure to pay attention to many of the unwritten rules of modern mainstream horror filmmaking. Apart from its bending of genre rules its also fairly unique in that although the cover of the DVD may suggest otherwise this film is really not aimed at a teenage demographic at all.
