Game Over fun list of early video game cultural references
michaeljhuman6 September 2013
I like the original Tron movie, so I appreciated this. But they did not stop at Tron references.

It was a hilarious and correct critique of early video games in cartridge form. I played them. They were really primitive. But it was all we had. "The guys don't even bleed!" (lol!) It's also funny how bad Dexter is at video games. First off, in the 80s, genius boys were always amazing at video games. It was a stereotype. I was a bit talented at computers from an early age, in that I could program them. But I was always bad at video games. So I appreciate the debunking of that stereotype (I am not a genius though.) I loved the introduction of Pac Man into the Tron universe. Pac Man was one the most popular arcade games of all time.

Then they threw in a Star Wars reference with the messenger robot. Not totally out of place because Star Wars has been the source for many video games. And Star Wars came out around the time video game arcades were a big thing.

Great graphics in the Tron universe. Genndy appreciates the abstract I think, and Tron is a very abstract sort of place.
