Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman” reunion will have to wait.
Jenkins has relinquished directing duties for “Cleopatra,” a historical drama featuring Gadot as the legendary queen of Egypt. Kari Skogland, who recently directed Marvel’s TV series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” is taking over filmmaking duties.
Jenkins isn’t departing the project entirely. She will remain involved in a producing role as she pivots attention to her next two projects, “Wonder Woman 3” for Warner Bros. and “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron” for Disney and Lucasfilm.
Paramount Pictures is backing “Cleopatra,” which remains in development stages at the studio. Paramount won the rights to the project last year, reportedly beating out Apple, Universal, Warner Bros. and Netflix.
Skogland first came to attention with independent films such as “The Size of Watermelons” and “Men With Guns,” and went on to direct the 2008 crime thriller “Fifty Dead Men Walking,...

Exclusive: Kari Skogland has been set to direct the six-part Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with Avengers: Endgame‘s Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan starring. Sources said Captain America: Civil War‘s Daniel Bruhl and Emily Van Camp are also in talks to join. The miniseries will air in August 2020.
I’d heard that Mackie’s accepting the shield from Captain America at the end of Avengers: Endgame will figure into the miniseries, but the studio had no comment on where it goes.
Bruhl played Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, the mastermind who drove a wedge between Captain America and Iron Man that factored into the Avengers films, and the murderer of Black Panther’s father. Malcolm Spellman (Empire) has been writing.
Skogland is the Emmy-nominated, BAFTA-winning director, showrunner and CEO of Mad Rabbit, a Red Arrow Studios company, which launched in 2016. She has directed episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale,...

I Declare War will be available for digital download and on DVD from 30 June 2014 and to celebrate, we have 3 DVDs to give away!
Directed by Jason Laypeyre and Robert Wilson, the film features rising stars Gage Munroe (Immortals), Simon Yu (A Beginner’s Guide to Endings) and Mackenzie Munro (The Stone Angel).
I Declare War focuses on a group of 12-year-old friends whilst they play an innocent game of ‘Capture the Flag’ in the neighbourhood woods, arming themselves with nothing more than sticks, their imagination and a simple set of rules.
One afternoon the game takes on a more serious tone and the quest for victory pushes the boundaries of friendship, giving the would-be warriors a glimpse of the darker side of human nature. Will child’s play turn to something more real or will these boys battle it out and win the war?

Canadian director Jon Knautz burst into international view with Jack Brooks Monster Slayer and with that film’s release still fresh the entire team behind Jack Brooks is already hard at work on their sophomore feature, the much more serious-minded The Shrine. Check out a look at the teaser poster below, along with new info on the feature. This is why I’m not a betting man. Speculation in the aftermath of Canuck creature feature Jack Brooks Monster Slayer was that the creative forces behind that film would return quickly to the same well to create a sequel, speculation reinforced by Brooks’ sequel friendly ending and by comments made by the stars and director when the film was on the fest circuit. Well, all that speculation was wrong. The core creative team behind Jack Brooks starts production on their next feature next week and Jack Brooks 2 it aint, instead what we’re getting is what appears to be a far more serious horror picture titled The Shrine.

Toronto -- Canadian actress Kristin Booth on Saturday night managed to bypass efforts by the Genies, Canada's film awards, to bleep out the infamous homegrown film title "Young People Fucking" from the nationwide telecast.
"I'm so fucking excited," Booth blurted out as she accepted the Genie trophy for best supporting actress for her role in the indie comedy after Global Television edited the swear word when listing the nominees, and presenter Jayne Eastwood only said "Young People ..." when announcing Booth as the winner.
Martin Gero's "Young People Fucking" last year led Canada's Conservative government to introduce a film censorship bill that it later withdrew after a public backlash.

The story of Bonnie and Clyde is getting a retelling, with Hilary Duff and Kevin Zegers in negotiations to play the infamous 1930s bank robbers.
Tonya S. Holly is directing "The Story of Bonnie and Clyde" and producing the indie drama with Tom Rogers via her Cypress Moon Studios.
Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were Depression-era lovers and outlaws whose exploits captured the public's imagination. Their story has hit the big screen several times, with 1967's "Bonnie and Clyde," starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, considered a classic.
The makers are stressing that the new film is not a remake and are promising to showcase times in the couple's lives not seen onscreen before. Do you really want to get an Ira mole mad? British spy drama Fifty Dead Men Walking has stirred the ire of Martin McGartland, its real-life inspiration, according to The Hollywood Reporter. McGartland "threatened legal action against the Canadian-British co-production ... on grounds that the feature infringes his moral rights." On the same day that McGartland made his threat, a scheduled press screening was canceled by Canadian distributor Tva Films, which claimed "a print problem."
The film is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff) on September 10 -- a splashy, red carpet Gala Presentation. But McGartland says that the film "is an entirely false and distorted account of what took place." He is also "reserving all [his] legal rights and remedies in this matter." But one has to wonder -- didn't he already sign off by selling the film rights?...

After the warm reception his first feature "Xx/Xy" received at Sundance in 2002, director Austin Chick returned to the snowy slopes of Park City to debut his sophomore effort, which seemed to impress our own Matt Singer when he saw it in January. Assembling an noteworthy ensemble that includes the likes of Robin Tunney, Naomie Harris, Rip Torn and David Bowie, Chick follows Tom and Josh Sterling (Josh Hartnett and Adam Scott, respectively), two brothers desperately trying to right the sinking ship of their failing dot-com company in the weeks leading up to the devastating September 11th attacks.

Despite a terrific lead performance by Ellen Burstyn, Kari Skogland's epic "The Stone Angel" is a lesson in the perils of trying to cram a hefty Canadian novel that spans decades into a movie running just under two hours.
Burstyn plays a 90-year-old Manitoba widow who flees to her former farm when her long-suffering son (an excellent Dylan Baker) is forced to put her in a nursing home. A long series of flashbacks details her unhappy marriage to his father, a drunken...

TORONTO -- David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises, starring Naomi Watts and Viggo Mortensen, and Denys Arcand's Days of Darkness will get the red-carpet treatment at the Toronto International Film Festival, organizers said Tuesday.
The latest work from veteran Canadian directors Cronenberg and Arcand -- whose film closed Cannes this year -- will receive galas at Roy Thomson Hall.
Unveiling the Canadian contingent in Toronto, festival organizers said they have booked Francois Girard's Keira Knightley starrer Silk from Picturehouse and New Line International, Roger Spottiswoode's Rwandan drama Shake Hands With the Devil and Clement Virgo's boxing tale Poor Boy's Game, starring Danny Glover, for Special Presentations slots.
Also joining the Special Presentations program is Adam Vollick's Here Is What Is, a portrait of famed record producer Daniel Lanois, and Guy Maddin's My Winnipeg, billed as a "docu-fantasia" about the filmmaker's hometown.
Canadian films unspooling as part of Toronto's Contemporary World Cinema section include Leonard Farlinger's All Hat; Bruce Sweeney's American Venus, starring Rebecca De Mornay; Bernard Emond's Contre Toute Esperance, which will also screen in Locarno; and Carl Bessai's Carrie-Anne Moss starrer Normal.
Also joining the CWC party is Laurie Lynd's Breakfast With Scot, Denis Cote's Nos Vies Privees and Kari Skogland's The Stone Angel, the big-screen adaptation of the classic Margaret Laurence novel, starring Ellen Burstyn.
