Get ready for a heavy dose of backwoods butchery with Timber Falls, which is now streaming on the Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox streaming service.
Originally released in December of 2007, the Tony Giglio-directed slasher begins when a weekend of camping in the mountains becomes an excursion into hell for a young couple, who become pawns in a grotesque plot hatched by deranged locals. It stars Josh Randall and Brianna Brown.
The film is said to be in the tradition of Stephen King’s Desperation.
Interesting to note for fans of the Wrong Turn movies, Timber Falls was released in Brazil with the title Wrong Turn 2. In Mexico it was released with the title Wrong Turn 3!
Writing for Dread Central at the time, Steve Barton awarded the film a score of 3.5 out of 5, writing, “Timber Falls proves itself to be a cut above the paint-by-numbers crap we’re usually force fed and...

It’s been four years since the release of the second sequel to the reboot/remake of Death Race – Death Race: Inferno – and three since the fourth film was sneakily announced by it’s writer (who also penned parts 2 and 3), Tony Giglio on Twitter, but now Death Race 4, or Death Race: Beyond Anarchy as it’s officially titled, has got a new red-band trailer and Four clips!
Not to be confused with Roger Corman’s own remake of Death Race, entitled Death Race 2050, Death Race: Beyond Anarchy sees the return of Danny Trejo as Goldberg and Frederick Koehler as Lists – both of whom appeared in Death Race 2 and Death Race: Inferno. Joining the Death Race family are Black Sails’ Zach McGowan, Christine Marzano, Danny Glover, Lorina Kamburova and a number of homegrown talent from here in the UK: Cassie Clare, Nicholas Aaron, Lucy Aarden, Julian Seager, Lee Shone, Kellie Blaise...

Even if you aren’t exactly a superfan of the Doom franchise, you have to acknowledge its place in video game history. Had you been around in the 1990’s, then odds are you played one of its earliest installments on a PC at some point. If not, then perhaps you’ve at least familiarized yourself with one of the more modern offerings, as the series remains a staple in the horror genre.
Of course, a game that’s able to boast such a great level of popularity and influence was naturally going to receive a cinematic adaptation before long. And that came in 2005 in the form of the theatrically released Doom, which starred the likes of Karl Urban and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The world just learned of the existence of a Doom reboot just a handful of days ago, and now Dread Central has an alleged scoop from some unnamed sources. The film will be directed by Tony Giglio (Timber Falls, S.W.A.T. Under Siege) and that Once Upon A Time actress Amy Manson is set to play the film's lead.
It's also been revealed the project is being helmed by Universal's non-film division Universal 1440 Entertainment, which appears to mean the project is going straight to DVD or a streaming platform. That makes sense, and would certainly explain why we've heard next to nothing about it until now. Are you more, or less excited for this film now that you've read all this?...

All Sallow’s Eve: Edel Gets Stuck in the Cage
For those who had a modicum of hope that German director’s Uli Edel‘s Canadian production of Nicolas Cage horror thriller Pay the Ghost would be more serviceable than its inane title would suggest, abandon hope all ye who enter here. Based on a novella by Tim Lebbon and adapted by Dan Kay (who last penned the 2007 indie yokel horror film Timber Falls), it’s one of those unfortunate genre cheapies that takes itself too seriously to be appreciated even for a bit of camp value—a missed opportunity considering Cage is headlining.

There are two kinds of Nicolas Cage movies. There are the ones where he shows his dramatic and comedic breadth as an actor, in films as diverse as Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation and The Weather Man. Then, there are the rest of his films. Notorious for making schlock as well as the occasional stellar film, Cage has one of the biggest resumes of any actor his age. Now on a hot streak due to his role in David Gordon Green’s drama Joe, Cage has signed on to Pay the Ghost, a film that could fall in either category of his filmography.

When was the last time Katherine Heigl did a movie that didn’t involve attempts at comedy, or, as is more often the case, romantic comedy? (Notice I said attempts, not necessarily succeeding. Ahem.) I can’t recall, but Heigl may be trying to step out of her wheelhouse if she successfully signs on to “The Follower”. No details about the film are known, but it is being described as a thriller, so, yeah, no getting knocked up by a stoner or marrying a handsome CIA killer in this one for Ms. Heigl. Heigl will star and produce the film, which will be based on a spec script by Tony Giglio, for Millennium Films. “Primevil”, not to be confused with a number of other recent similarly titled creature features, was originally released as “The Lost Tribe”, and was presumably renamed to suggest less anthropology and more horror. Though depressingly generic, the new title is actually kind of fitting, being the original working moniker for “Predator”, a film which director Roel Reiné quite openly attempts to ape, along with various others such as “The Descent”. Reiné has a reasonable career in direct to DVD schlock, having helmed sequels “Scorpion King: Rise Of the Dead”, “Death Race 2” and “The Marine 2”, though this time at least has the backing of a high profile producer in Irvin Kershner (“Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back”). Boasting a slightly higher than average budget for this kind of affair, the film also features a decent cast including Brianna Brown (also in the underrated backwoods chiller “Timber Falls...

00:00:00: Death Race 2, also known as Death Race: Frankenstein Lives, is the direct to DVD prequel to 2008's Death Race, which was allegedly a prequel to 1975's Death Race 2000. It's not a video game movie, but it damn well should be. Death Race 2 gives us the backstory on the character Frankenstein, the mysterious metal-faced driver who died in the first scenes of Death Race. I don't want to type the word Death Race anymore. Our Blockbuster gift card was sacrificed to the lone rental store still located in Burbank. I pulled and pulled on the handle, wondering why the hell the store was closed at 9 Pm on a Tuesday. That's when the employee gestured that it was a Push door. I had finally entered the proper level of mental mediocracy to appreciate this fine piece of cinematic entertainment. On Unrated Blu-ray no less.

The Film:
Let’s race.
I doubt if in 1975 that Roger Corman knew he would have a franchise on his hands. While technically Death Race is not really on his hands anymore, it’s a franchise now, thanks to Death Race 2 and all because of Frankenstein. The original Death Race 2000 featured Sly Stallone and David Carradine (as Frankenstein) in what would become a cult hit, and throughout the years would seemingly be ready for remake land with today’s effects and budgets, and that’s exactly what Paul W.S. Anderson did in 2008. Now, much like the corporate greed depicted in the films, a calling for a new film from Universal Studios – a prequel to the remake which was meant to be a homage/prequel in itself (you get this?) – comes with engines roaring.
Luckily for Frankenstein and on-lookers, Death Race 2 doesn’t crash and burn, but instead...

Frankenstein Lives! Writer/director Tony Giglio [Chaos, which starred Death Race's Jason Statham; Timber Falls] chats with Killer Film about the upcoming Death Race 2. In the film, we follow the origins of the first “Frankenstein” car driver, Carl “Luke” Lucas (Luke Goss), who died in a race at the beginning of the Anderson remake; from Luke’s beginning as a bank robber until his death in Death Race. Prisoners, start your engines…
Jon Peters: It’s been three years since you directed Timber Falls. So how and when did Death Race 2 come to you?
Tony Giglio: You know, I’ve been working to get a job with Paul [W.S. Anderson] and Jeremy [Bolt] for years. I had an interview to direct Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and then several interviews and call backs for Resident Evil: Extinction, but it came down to my lack of visual effects knowledge. But through that whole process, I got to know Paul [W.S. Anderson] and his company very well.

Director: Roel Reine.
Writers: Paul W. S. Anderson and Tony Giglio.
Moonlighting Films is the production company who is bringing Death Race 2 to Blu-ray and DVD January 18th. In case you are not familiar with the series, Death Race (2008) was a remake of Roger Corman's film, titled Death Race 2000 (1975). Now, Death Race 2 is a prequel to both the 1975 and 2008 film, with director Roel Reine's (Wolf Town) latest film investigating the origins of the mysterious character Frankenstein. Action crafting zealout Paul W. S. Anderson (Resident Evil) co-wrote this film's script with Tony Giglio (Timber Falls), much like the 2008 version. This straight-to-video endeavour gives the blood-thirsty fans what they want; scantily clad women parade around before exploding on impact, and Death Race 2 harkens back to the time of Gladiatorial Roman Arenas. But here, there are 20,000 rounds of ammunition to be expended before the end credits role.

Death Race 2
Stars: Luke Goss, Danny Trejo, Tanit Phoenix, Robin Shou, Ving Rhames, Sean Bean | Written by Tony Giglio | Directed by Roel Reine
This prequel to 2008’s Death Race (itself a remake of Roger Corman’s cult classic Death Race 2000) tells the origin story of Frankenstein, the helmet-clad racer defeated by Jason Statham in the first movie, as he progresses through Death Match – yes, that’s right, Death Race 2 does not start out with the eponymous race, but rather a brutal televised show that pits the felons of Terminal Island against each other in hand to hand combat. It’s only when ratings dip, and the fact that the prison has plenty of cars in its scrapyard, that the Death Race is born…

Wrong Turn got one. The Lost Boys and Smokin' Aces got one. Hell, American Pie spits one out every Tuesday: a direct-to-video sequel. Every time we talk about one of these movies, I feel I must defend the release strategy, but this time I'll skip the schpiel and get right to it: if you liked the Paul W.S. Anderson Death Race flick from not too long ago, Universal Home Video has some good news for you. Principal photography has already begun in South Africa on Death Race 2.
According to a recent press release, the flick will be a prequel starring the likes of Luke Goss, Ving Rhames, Sean Bean, and Danny Trejo. Nope, no Jason Statham, but we are promised "even more outrageously outfitted muscle cars and death-defying stunts in a deadly driving competition." Mr. Anderson will stick around as story contributor and executive producer, as he often does on the Resident Evil flicks,...

Anchor Bay Entertainment have announced the UK DVD release of The Graves, the debut feature written, produced and directed by award winning comic book creator and writer and founder of Chaos Comics, Brian Pulido (whose works include Lady Death, Evil Ernie and Purgatori) on May 31st 2010. A prequel toPaul W.S. Anderson’s “Death Race” remake is in the works at Impact Pictures (Anderson and Jeremy Bolt’s production outfit).
In the first film Jason Statham played a wrongly imprisoned racing champion who competes in several televised brutal prison races to win his freedom.
Tony Giglio (Timber Falls, interview) has been hired to write a script, based on a story by Anderson. Giglio may also direct. The script is said to delve into the past of the driver known as Frankenstein.
Created for Paul Bartel’s original 1975 cult classic, Death Race 2000, Frankenstein was played by the late David Carradine. In the film, history said that his face was mangled by so many car wrecks he had to wear an intimidating mask. Carradine returned to Anderson’s remake briefly to voice the new Frankenstein before he was replaced by Jason Statham’s Jensen Ames.

Paul W.S. Anderson made last year's Death Race as a prequel, not a remake, for the original 1975 film Death Race 2000. So how is he going to manage a prequel to the prequel? Shock 'Til You Drop is reporting that Anderson is planning a Death Race prequel, to be written by Tony Giglio based on a story from Anderson. In fact, Anderson might not even direct it-- Giglio, who recently directed Timber Falls, may be taking over this time. The story allegedly will delve into the past of Frankenstein, the driver played by Jason Statham in Death Race who-- spoiler alert!-- escapes from the maximum security jail at the end.

Paul W.S. Anderson's Death Race remake didn't exactly blow open the box office last summer; with a production budget of $45 million, it grossed just $36 million domestically (although it ultimately made its money back on the foreign market). Not necessarily a great starting point for a franchise, but hey, these are desperate times, and so Paul W.S. Anderson has reportedly started development on a prequel. Tony Giglio (Chaos, Timber Falls, Soccer Dog: The Movie) will write the script based on a story idea by Anderson, and may also direct as well. The prequel will focus on the back story of the masked driver Frankenstein, who was played by Jason Statham. However, since Frankenstein is essentially a persona that can be taken on by anyone wearing the mask, I am guessing they're referring to the origin of the "legend" rather than Statham's character specifically. In the opening of the film, Frankenstein...

The backstory of Frankenstein and the origins of the Death Race game are about to be revealed. According to Shock Till You Drop, Paul W.S. Anderson has set the task to screenwriter Tony Giglio (writer and director of ‘Timber Falls’) to write a prequel to Anderson’s 2008 action remake, ‘Death Race.’ Giglio may also be directing the film with Anderson’s Impact Pictures backing it.
In Anderson’s remake of the 1975 cult classic, Frankenstein was a racer who had been scarred over years of car crashes and explosions. David Carradine, who played Frankenstein in the Paul Bartel-directed original, voiced the role in the opening moments of Anderson’s film. Jason Statham, who plays the role of Frankenstein for the majority of the remake, is not likely to return, as this film will be about Frankenstein’s origins.
The new film will be based on a story Anderson has devised.

After the explosions and sabotage of Death Race last year, you were probably left with many burning questions: how did this lethal contest come about? Well, worry no more, because a prequel is on the way to answer all those niggling plot holes.Paul W.S. Anderson has written the story for the prequel, which will explore the origins of Frankenstein - played in the original Death Race 2000 film and voiced in Death Race by David Carradine - and explain how the Death Races got started. One of my favorite parts of Death Race from last year (yep, I actually enjoyed it) was that it jumped right into the action. The opening race scene was awesome and there was already a history that we didn't really need to know anything more about. Well, Styd is now reporting that even though it made Universal a wimpy $36.3 million at the box office, Paul W.S.
