On February 2018, after 11 years, someone leaked the DVD screener of the full movie online throughout Facebook and other social media.
After the leak on the internet, Astro Shaw has decided to officially release the movie nationwide on 5 April 2018.
After Dukun (2018) 's release was postponed twice - in December 2006 and again in March of 2007, Astro Shaw was still holding it back and not releasing it till today (2017). Until now, probably nobody has a full copy of this movie.
Dukun is widely believed to be based on the infamous case of Mona Fandey, the bomoh who, together with her accomplices, murdered Batu Talam assemblyman, Datuk Mazlan Idris in 1993. But, Astro Shaw as the production company, denied that statement and said Dukun is "a work of fiction" and "an adaptation of a courtroom drama" with "loose and coincidental resemblance to a murder trial that took place several years ago."
The movie was banned initially and released many years later. It's no surprise as the movie contains many elements against the belief of mainstream religion
