Good enough that I'll watch another one...
planktonrules25 February 2014
This is the first episode of the old "Lone Wolf" TV show that I have seen. I liked it enough that I'll download a few more episodes (available for free download from archive.org).

The show begins with the cops informing him that his famed Lone Wolf medallion was found with a corpse. He thinks he knows the woman responsible and the trail leads to a train. On the train is a bomb and it's set to go off soon unless Michael Lanyard (Louis Hayward) finds it fast. But first, he needs to find the man who just murdered this female suspect and then he'll find the bomb.

This is a taut and exciting episode. I particularly liked the film noir-like dialog--snappy and fun. Well worth your time.

Can the Lone Wolf find the bomb in time?

Warning: Spoilers
Lanyard traces a woman, Yvette Marchand, who was responsible for the death of nine of his men in WWII, to Reno, Nevada. Marchand ends up dead and the police tell Lanyard of a robbery of a bomb and the murder of the two couriers transporting it. The thieves, one of whom was Marchand, don't realize that the package they stole was not money but a bomb - a bomb set to go off at 7 p.m. the following evening. Clues indicate that the thief has boarded a train, a train that later becomes snowbound in the mountains due to an avalanche. Ernest Borgnine plays the agent who has been following Lanyard and helps him to try and find the bomb before it's too late. The camera shots of Reno and a packed casino as well as the shots of the train and the avalanche were very good even certainly stock footage. This is a gripping story even though one knows it's going to turn out all right in the end. There is an interesting remark about how "a strange peace settled over the passengers," as they realized the time to find the bomb was running out. Very good show.
