- When a bomb is found at what was thought to be a drug lab the BAU is brought in, and while Hotch conducts a state-side investigation Gideon matches wits with a prisoner at Guantánamo Bay.
- A DEA raid in Virginia accidentally finds an Al Qaeda-type chemical bomb, presumably the work of Jind Allah and his Omega cell. Hotch convinces Jason, due to her training and Middle Eastern experience, including speaking fluent Arabic, to take newcomer Emily Prentiss along for the interrogation in Gitmo (Guantanamo base, on Cuba). Gideon uses no further torture but Muslim-friendly reasoning, even invoking the Quran. Info gleaned causes a DEA SWAT team find anthrax but lose a man at a second site. The team learns the prisoner's true identity is Egyptian: imam Jamal Abaza, who turned jihadist after his son Amir's death, and set up a US MIS cell recruiting home-grown 'second choice' terrorists, who plan a bombing soon; Gideon tricks him.—KGF Vissers
- The Drug Enforcement Administration conducts a routine raid on what they believe is a crystal methamphetamine lab in Northern Virginia. Instead of finding such, they discover weaponry capable of dispensing a chemical agent, and a well constructed escape hatch. This evidence points to terrorists. Based on an intercepted message found at the site, the BAU is certain there will be a Middle Eastern--perhaps Al Qaeda--based terrorist attack using a chemical/biological weapon on US soil in 48 hours. The DEA also found a link to a man calling himself Jind Allah (literally translated as "Soldier of God")--they don't know his true identity--who is currently a "ghost" detainee at Guantánamo Bay, which means in the eyes of the US government he does not exist. J.J. and Garcia monitor telephone and Internet chatter, Hotch and Morgan investigate the site itself for more possible evidence, while Gideon, Reid and against Gideon's wishes Prentiss go to Guantánamo Bay to interrogate Jind Allah, who they feel is the key to uncovering the plot. Gideon's protests against Prentiss are solely because he does not know her capabilities, but he is overruled by Hotch who believes her knowledge of Arabic and Arab culture will be invaluable for the interrogation. Gideon, the sole direct interrogator, uses a tactic against the wishes of his Gitmo CIA captors. Gideon, Reid and Prentiss do manage to gather information from Jind Allah, but they have to filter what is true and what is not. If they are wrong, they could hinder and potentially harm Hotch and Morgan as they follow up on these leads. As they get closer to finding out what is going on, Hotch has to decide whether or not to break strict protocol for a personal reason.—Huggo
