I am not surprised this one never became a series.

"Microcops" is a failed TV pilot that was shown as part of the "CBS Summer Playhouse"...a program dedicated to putting failed shows on television. I think they did this to recoup the costs of making the pilots....or, perhaps, they wanted to see how the public responded to the shows.

"Microcops" looks like it was made about 1982-84. This is a guess based on a few things...the fashions, the quality of the special effects and that Peter Scolari was to be a star in the show BUT he was a regular on "Newhart" from 1984-1990...and he certainly wouldn't have considered changing shows once he had a regular gig.

The show begins with a cheapo "Star Wars" style opening where text informs you that the show is about the Ichians...an advanced race who patrol the galaxy trying to maintain order. Soon you see two cops in "Thriller" video-type costumes chasing some dolt who seems about as scary as a deep dish pizza (and, I love deep dish pizza). He heads to Earth and the pair follow him in their space ship. But once on Earth, they realize that they are itsy-bitsy--perhaps the size of tiny bugs. So, they somehow convince a local putz (Scolari) to help them.

So is this any good? No. Two major problems. The space effects in the beginning are cheesy...so cheesy I could see folks just turning off the show. Second, and more important, is that the show really isn't very good. Instead of being a serious drama or a comedy (either could have worked), it seemed more childish and dumb than anything else. I also think the show might have worked much better had the Ichians NOT been tiny...just intergalactic cops forced to come to Earth in search of a super-villain. The villain in this one isn't so super....just annoying.
