David Main needs to prove himself as he looks to get involved in a partnership with fellow solicitor Andrew Retford.
A divorce case could seal the deal. Retford is acting for businessman Tony Murray. He passes the wife Alison to David.
Alison has found herself in a loveless marriage, her husband has not paid attention to her in months. Alison helped build up the business and now wants half of everything.
She is convinced that not all of her husband's dealings go through the books.
It is a case for Walter Clegg who David has arranged to work via a private detective agency.
What David Main wants to do is clear Walter's name. Quashing his sentence might not be an easy matter.
The Main Chance has hit its stride with David back in action as a solicitor. His famous guile is there to see as he conducts negotiations on Alison's behalf. A solid episode.
Interesting that David Main also deals with a wealthy lady called Laura who has £600,000 to invest. She is told that her money will be eaten up by high inflation and low interest rates if she puts the money in the bank. There are the investment markets but they are just too volatile. Hard to believe that the series was shown almost 50 years ago.
