Season 4: Very mixed season with mostly solid episodes but with some terrible ideas in there

I like to think I have a decent sense of humor but when you sit watching this show with someone and an entire episode is about saying the word "dick" as often as possible and none of it is funny, it is kind of hard to convince the other person that you the viewer are better than this. I reference the episode Dickesode because it is the best (worst?) example of this season being poor; it is a terrible 10 minutes with humor so basic and so uninspired that it was almost painful to watch – and I say this as someone who has enjoyed the majority of the previous seasons of ATHF.

Unfortunately it is not alone because there are several episodes in this very short season which really do not work and are based on terrible ideas. The impact of this is accentuated by the lack of any really strong episodes that would stand out as the best of the show as a whole; although there are plenty that are pretty solid. For me this show is simple – I do not get off on crudity or grossness for the sake of it but I like it when it is done in the frame of the characters being themselves and the writers being randomly creative. So Hand-Banana is a good example as it is terribly horrible in content but yet really funny. Meanwhile Ezekiel is a good episode because it shows off Shake's character really well. The loss of supporting characters is a real problem as well. This season we have no pre-credits scene and the usual characters are limited to one appearance from the Mooninites, and the show really feels the loss of all of these.

Season 4 is cruder than I like and less funny than I like but as a fan of the characters it does just about still work with the usual strong delivery from Shake, Fry and Meatwad – the best episodes focus on them with some silly random stuff as the narrative device for them to be who they are, hopefully season 5 can deliver more like this.
