Desmond Llewelyn was about the only real life hero . . .
pixrox130 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
. . . who appears in any of the 23 Eon production company James Bond flicks, so they spared him 204 seconds to mark his passing on the DVD set for THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, his 17th and final Agent 007 film. (Perhaps the Eon people felt that this would be the most apt tribute possible, since his screen time for those many Bonds totaled less than an average of two minutes per feature, or about half an hour overall.) No doubt folks such as Eon's James II (male model George Lazenby) and James V (Matt Damon school-of-acting grad Pierce Brosnan) were not entirely comfortable being around Mr. Llewelyn any longer than that on set, since everyone knows that old war heroes are subject to the "ticking time bomb" syndrome. Desmond's company, though outnumbered 10-1, took on Hitler's Blitzkreiging Panzers and their superior tanks in the early days of WWII. After fighting to the last shell, he and his buddies were captured. The future "Q" survived five years as a P.O.W. under the Nazi Thumb, even being caught in an escape tunnel (like an episode out of HOGAN'S HEROES!). R.I.P., Q.

Tribute to Desmond Llewelyn is a funny and touching tribute to his Q character in the James Bond films
tavm1 September 2022
After he died in a car accident a few weeks after The World is Not Enough premiered, when the DVD was made of that James Bond movie, Desmond Llewelyn got a tribute video consisting of clips of him as Q guiding the various Bonds through the years: with Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball, with Roger Moore in The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, and Octopussy, with Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, and with Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and TWINE. A clip is also shown of him with leading lady Jill St. John in Diamonds Are Forever showing her how he managed to fix slot machines in Las Vegas! Many funny lines throughout while "Nobody Does It Better" by Carly Simon is playing as the score but Desmond's final scene in TWINE ends this tribute video on a touching note with this exchange between him and Brosnan's Bond:

Q: Now pay attention, 007. I've always tried to teach you two things. First, never let them see you bleed.

James Bond: And the second?

Q: Always have an escape plan!

(At this point, Q presses a gadget that causes him to lower himself as the floor below him goes down in motion as Bond looks on...)
