- A couple returns from vacation to find a dead girl in their bedroom. SVU is called in when it first appears that the girl may have been sexually assaulted, but Warner tells Stabler that the girl was not assaulted, but died because she was drinking and suffocated on her own vomit.
The couple tells Stabler and Benson that they don't have any liquor in the house because the husband is a recovering alcoholic, and that they hired a dog walker to take care of their dog while they were away. After they discover that the dog was not cared for, Stabler and Benson interview the dog walker, who tells them that because she has so many clients she passed on the care of the dog to a high school student named Becca Rice.
When Benson and Stabler show Becca a picture of the dead girl, she denies knowing her, but Becca's mother tells her to tell them what she knows. Becca admits that she gave the key to Regan Michaels, a girl at her school. Jordan Owens, another student from her school whom she tutors, reveals that he attended a party at the couple's house while they were gone, but doesn't know the girl. He shows them a web site that promoted the party, where they discover that the dead girl was named Melanie Tamkin. The detectives interview Regan and two other students, Mark and Luke, who were the hosts of the party. They say that Melanie tried to drink, passed out, and wouldn't respond when they tried to revive her.
Novak wants to find out how they got the liquor and hold all three responsible for Melanie's death. At arraignment, Judge Donnelly releases them on their own recognizance and orders them not to drink. Melanie's father becomes upset at the judge's ruling and begs Stabler for his help.
Later, Stabler discovers that his daughter Kathleen is still drinking, and asks for her help in finding Regan and the others when they announce they are having another party. He then goes to see Becca, who tells them where they are. Regan, Luke, Matt, and Jordan are arrested, but Donnelly releases them again. Stabler and Novak go to Donnelly's chambers to protest her decision, but Donnelly reminds him that he interceded for Kathleen when she was arrested for a DUI. While they're still in Donnelly's chambers, Stabler gets a call that there's a blog posting showing a drunken Regan, Luke, Matt, and Jordan insulting Donnelly, so Donnelly orders Stabler to arrest them again.
The detectives go Becca's house thinking that Jordan might be there, and when they find him in bed with her mother, Becca freaks out. They arrest both Jordan and Becca's mother, who each try to justify what happened. Benson tries to talk to Becca's mother without success. Regan, Matt, and Luke are also arrested, and arraigned with Jordan. After their arraignment, Becca confronts Jordan who tells her that her mother made the moves on him, a claim which Becca doesn't believe. Stabler gets Jordan to admit that Becca's mother provided them with the liquor.
Jordan and Regan are a fatal accident. The detectives discover that he was drunk, but Regan wasn't. Becca tells them that he was with her before he died, and blames them for Jordan's death. They suspect that he was drinking when he was with her, but can't get her to admit it.
During the memorial service for Regan and Jordan, Stabler claims that everyone knew that Jordan was an alcoholic, and no one did anything about it. After the service is over, Luke tells Stabler he's right, and that Becca is also a drunk. Accompanied by a social worker, Stabler goes to Becca's house and gives her a breathalyzer test. When he discovers that she has a high blood alcohol count, the social worker takes Becca and Stabler arrests her mother.
Becca's mother and her lawyer ask Donnelly to drop the charges. Novak disagrees, stating that Becca is an alcoholic, and her mother allowed it. Donnelly instructs Novak to get corroboration from Becca, or she'll dismiss the charges.
Stabler visits Becca at rehab, where she admits to being sober for the first time in months. When he asks how she started drinking, she tells him that she wanted to escape from her problems, and that's what her mother did to escape from hers. When her mother caught her, she joined her instead of freaking out. Becca also admits that her mother was the one who bought the alcohol for the party, and that Jordan was drinking when he was with her on the night he died.
During her mother's trial, Becca breaks down when her mother's attorney badgers her on cross examination. During a break, Becca's mother and her attorney gloat to Novak that her case is getting weaker, but Novak retorts that they must be proud going after a teenager. Becca's mother refuses to accept responsibility for her alcoholism. When the trial resumes, Warner testifies how Becca's drinking has affected her health. After hearing this, Becca's mother stands up and admits to everything, including providing the alcohol for the party where Melanie died.
Later, Stabler tells Kathleen that she should own up to her DUI arrest. He asks her for her drivers license, and then burns it.
