- Mary is in a panic and everyone joins the search. Den cements plans for his holiday and competition between Michelle and Sharon for Kelvin's affections heats up. Pete is unhappy with Ian's career plans.
- Mary is frantically banging on the closed shutters of Naima and Saeed's shop, in spite of a sign saying that says it is closed due to domestic reason. Pauline comes out of the launderette and laughingly tells her that Naima had to shut up shop to take Saeed home because he was drunk.
Pauline then realises that Mary is upset and asks what is wrong, and when Mary tells her that Ethel and Annie have disappeared she asks Mary if she has called the police. Mary replies that she hasnt in a tone that says 'of course not!' so Pauline takes her inside and tries to phone her social worker, Mrs Weston, but cant get her on the phone.
Meanwhile Lofty tries to get Sue to contact the mini-cab firm to tell Ali to keep an eye out for Ethel and Annie while he is driving around. Sue tells Lofty that Ali is asleep but when Lofty tells her that his cab is gone, Sue has no idea where he is. Sue is unsympathetic as usual, telling Lofty, "Well she's a silly cow, it's her own fault. I'd not let my kid go off with a stupid old bag like that," but eventually agrees to phone the firm. You get the impression it is more because she wants to find out where Ali is than anything else though.
At the Vic, Den arrives back after taking Roly for a walk and raises this 'opportunity' that has come up concerning a villa in Spain.
Word gets around about Annie being missing and everyone is out looking. Dr Legg is now co-ordinating the search. In the launderette Lou is mouthing off about Ethel never being able to have kids and says "I wouldnt put anything past her, not even baby snatching".
Mary is back in her flat and Kathy is trying in vain to keep Mary's mind off things and when Dr Legg sends Lofty to see Mary is OK, she tries to leave - but Lofty asks her not to go.
Suddenly Ethel turns up with Annie in a pram and Ian sees her and runs to get Mary. Mary comes running out and grabs Annie from the pram and yells at Ethel, saying she could kill her and calling her a stupid cow and saying that she should be locked up. Ethel protests about being spoken to like that and tells her to be careful of the pram because she paid good money for it. Mary yells at her, "just dont you come near me or my baby, ever - right!" leaving Ethel standing next to Dr Legg, stunned.
Sharon and Michelle are at the cafe arguing over Kelvin when Ali phones. Sue tells him off for going out without telling her, as she looked foolish not knowing where he was and asks if he has found the "silly old cow". She tells him to come home for tea and asks who is paying for the petrol and he appears to hang up on her. Kelvin comes in and Sharon invites him to listen to a new cassette with her that night, knowing full well that Michelle has already asked him to tea (dinner). Kelivn says OK though so Michelle has to remind him about coming for tea at her place, and lets him (and Sharon) know that her parents will be out for the evening.
Ethel is at the Fowler's talking to Lou and complaining about how she has been treated by Mary, when she had felt sorry for her and was trying to help. Lou tells her that she should never feel sorry for anyone, take care of number one and not interfere. Ethel says how no one trusts anyone these days and mentions again how you aren't safe in your own home, even from people you know - a reference to being attacked by Nick Cotton. "Nick Cotton was a fruit n nut case Ethel," Lou tells her. "I mean Lou, I'm no baby snatcher am I?" says Ethel. "Of course not, who ever would suggest such a thing," replies Lou - even though that was exactly what she had suggested herself earlier in the launderette.
Michelle was expecting her mother Pauline to cook dinner for them but ends up having to make cauliflower cheese herself. Meanwhile Sharon is trying to play Angie and Den off on each other to get the money for the new cassette that she is supposed to already have. It doesnt work and Angie tells her that if she works in the bar tonight (picking up glasses etc) she can get the money the next day.
At the Fowlers, a heavily made up Michelle is throwing herself at Kelvin but he seems to be trying to keep his distance. Just as it looks like they are about to kiss though, Lou walks in. Lou enjoys letting the cat out of the bag that Michelle didnt even ask Pauline if Kelvin could come to tea and Michelle and Kelvin get the pleasure of her company for the whole evening, stirring, and having digs at them both.
At the Vic, Pete and Kath aren't speaking to each other. Angie has come around on the idea of the villa in Spain, but wants to go with Den to have a look at it. Den tells her that the company can only afford to pay for one of them and that if they both went there would be no one to run the pub.
Pete and Kath leave for home and Pauline stops to talk to Andy who is on his own as Debbie is around at Mary's. Andy can't seem to get Debbie to mind her own business, and he is concerned about it. Previously Debbie and Andy had spoken to Dr Legg about what had happened with Annie and Ethel and Dr Legg seemed to be trying to gently tell Debbie to stop interfering so much. Debbie told Dr Legg that she had only told Ethel to take an interest and had never even mentioned babysitting, which wasn't true.
Closing time at the Vic and Sharon is demanding her pay for her work that night. Den let's her take 2 pounds out of the till but then she brings up this trip to Spain and saying how it would be nice if her and her mother could go with him. He reaches into his wallet and gives her some more money, and then she says "pity I've got other plans for the holidays," which brings a smile to Dens face until she continues with "still, Mum'll be pleased - after all Dad two's company i'n'it."
Ali and Saeed arrive at the shop and Saeed is obviously hungover but Naima is unsympathetic. Naima notices that Pete's fruit barrow isn't there.
Back at Pete and Kath's, they are lounging around in their dressing gowns but are talking again and apologise to each other. They discuss Ian's cooking ambitions and come to agree that they have to let him find his own way. They get cuddly on the couch and then Ian walks in saying he forgot the key to the padlock.
Sharon is looking for Kelvin and finds him at Tony's flat and they discuss how they have nowhere to hang out now that night as Den and Angie won't let Sharon be alone upstairs with Kelvin. Kelvin says he has to do his dad's washing anyhow.
Dr Legg goes to see Mary at her flat to check on her. He tells her that the best thing she can do for Annie is look after herself and that as Annie is heavy he thinks that she should accept the pram from Ethel.
People seem to have the impression that Naima and Saeed went home and had sex all afternoon the day before, but as Naima explains to Pauline at the launderette - they have separate beds still. Naima is upset and feels that Saeed has shamed her by getting drunk, and she says that shed like to get her own back on him.
Ethel visits Mary and apologises and gives her an Easter egg. They talk and Mary tells her about Ali's friend taking the shirts back and threatening to sue for the cost of the one she burnt with the iron. She then agrees to accept the pram that Ethel bought her.
Back at the Vic, Den is still trying to spin his story about Spain to Angie. Angie says she doesn't want to be left on her own because she is already too busy. When she mentions that she hasn't even had time to wash her smalls that day Sharon pipes up and offers to do them for her, and any washing that Den has - to the amazement of Den and Angie.
Ian is around at the Fowler's and talking to Michelle about his problems with his parents. Michelle asks Ian if he has seen Kelvin lately and when Ian tells her that he saw him heading for the launderette, she says "I wonder if Gran's got any washing to do".
At the launderette Sharon has a walkman with 2 sets of headphones and obviously has bought the new cassette. Her and Kelvin are moving to the music and fall off the bench to the floor, just as Michelle walks in.
