This is part two of the Naru and Nephrite arc and it's also one of my favorite episodes of the show and season 1. This is also one of the saddest episodes ever as it's a tragic romance much like John Carpenter's "Starman".

I like how just like in "Starman" it's a chase film as we see unfortunately Nephrite is on the run and of course the Negaverse are having it in for him on both his failure and betrayal. I like that we see there is some conflict going on with Nephrite once again, and we see he is asking a load of questions like if there is a way back into the good graces of Beryl as if she even has any. But why he is having certain feelings he hasn't allowed himself to experience, is change and another kind of life possible, but most importantly what Naru means to him.

Of course, there is that moment which is a bit of eroticism where Nephrite with the crystal does, and we see Naru um... well we see her but there is energy surrounding her. This was interesting because it almost felt like a hint of what could possibly come that Naru might be another Sailor Senchi yet to be awakened. But this energy he finds signifies her feelings of love which are a power of their own, as well as Nephrite's feelings for her as we see in his looks how he sees her as something more.

And of course, throughout the episode there is a chase as we see Naru and Nephrite on the run from the Negaverse forces along with the Sailor Senchi who still don't trust Nephrite understandably and that Naru is in danger which she is. It's a shame this premise never became another film for "Sailor Moon" as with any fugitive thriller there are so many things and possibilities that could be done.

There are some thrill scenes like one which is the best one is a hostage situation with Naru and Nephrite kicking yoma butt that was kind of cool; you could also say is a bit of a fairy tale motif as Naru is the damsel in distress and Nephrite is the prince to rescue her. But I really like the interaction scenes between both which I thought were warm and sweet as both are opening up to each other, most notably Nephrite for the first time as himself. Naru is right about him that he's not bad or not as bad as he thought he was. And as we see though the interaction there is a glimmer of hope in Nephrite, may 'be he could have a life with her.

Which makes the episode all the more sad as we see, there is that double layer suspense where on one hand you hope that both Naru and Nephrite will be able to get far away, fight though and find a way out of this; but then there is the other hand where deep down you know the dreaded truth that both or one of them won't get out of this alive, as the odds are completely against them and time is running out.

It then comes to a bittersweet and heart sinking climax where we see in one final battle Nephrite fights to protect Naru one last time, which is one of the things we all want to do with the significant others we love.

It's too bad this show never had an Elseworlds like episode arc in one of the seasons or even in the additional season we never had, where we would see what happens if Nephrite and Naru had their time, became a full-fledged couple, married and with a family. Let alone what happens is we discover Naru becomes a Sailor Senchi, Sailor Earth perhaps. Yeah, how different the show would have been indeed.

As it's said in "Starman": "So far to come, so much to do, so little time to fall in love."

Rating: 4 stars.
