Warning: Spoilers
I always look forward to both the BAFTA television and film awards, but the film awards are definitely my favourite ceremony, especially if I have seen the films nominated, so I can hope certain ones win. Hosted by Stephen Fry, 2006 saw some great films nominated and winning the famous golden mask award, in all the categories: Best Film, Best British Film, Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Music, Best Animated Film, the Fellowship award, Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editing, Best Film not in the English Language, Best Makeup & Hair, Best Production Design, Best Rising Star, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Short Film and Best Short Animation. Films nominated and winning in this year included: Batman Begins, Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Cinderella Man, A Cock and Bull Story, The Constant Gardener, Crash, Festival, Good Night, and Good Luck., Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, A History of Violence, Hotel Rwanda, King Kong, Kinky Boots, Kung Fu Hustle, March of the Penguins, Memoirs of a Geisha, Mrs. Henderson Presents, Pride & Prejudice, Syriana, Tsotsi, Walk the Line, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Wedding Crashers. It also included a tribute to all the filmmakers and stars who had passed away in the last year, including Anne Bancroft, Robert Wise and Sir John Mills. Stars seen at the ceremony, and nominated or winning, included Lord Sir Richard Attenborough, Pierce Brosnan, Matt Dillon, Rupert Grint, Jake Gyllenhaal, Felicity Huffman, Jude Law, William H. Macy, Thandie Newton, Christina Ricci, Sir Patrick Stewart, Charlize Theron, Renée Zellweger and Ziyi Zhang. Very good!
