On October 21, 2015, I woke up in my Atlantic Beach home around 7:00 Am. I got dressed, made sure my bags were packed, ate a light breakfast, and took off in my car. Today was my trip to Melbourne, Florida where I would be meeting my friend Jade, and we both would be going to Famous Faces & Funnies for a Skype Q&A with the one and only Brian K. Vaughan.
Brian K. Vaughan is the Eisner-award winning writer of The Runaways (with Adrian Alphona) for Marvel; Y: The Last Man (with Pia Guerra), Ex Machina (with Tony Harris), Pride of Baghdad (with Niko Henrichon) for DC/Vertigo; Saga (with Fiona Staples) and We Stand On Guard (with Steve Skorce) for Image. Vaughan’s creator-owned content is not only voluminous but high quality, as evidenced by critical praise and accolades. He mostly writes science fiction with healthy doses of drama and social/political commentary.

A look into the making of space opera comic ‘Saga’ and Canada vs. U.S. war story ‘We Stand On Guard’
The world is ruled by women when all male mammals (all but two) die suddenly. A group of teens discover their parents are part of an evil crime organization. War-torn Iraq is seen through the eyes of lions escaped from the Baghdad Zoo. These are just some of the tales spun by Brian K. Vaughan, one of the most compelling, creative, thought-provoking writers in comic books today. Issue #4 of Vaughan’s “We Stand On Guard” hits comic book store shelves today. The mini-series imagines a war between the U.S. and Canada about a century into the future. It centers on 18-year-old Canadian Amber, who’s survived on the run for 12 years when her older brother is captured by the American army. The series will run for a total of six issues, though Vaughan told HitFix that he and artist Steve Skroce “are already talking about what we’re gonna work on next.

We Stand on Guard #1
Written by Brian K. Vaughan
Illustrated by Steve Skroce
Coloured by Matt Hollingsworth
Lettered and Designed by Fonografiks
Published by Image Comics
Brian K. Vaughan has already cemented himself as an important cornerstone to comic book history, and he continues to impress through Saga and the recently wrapped digital series The Private Eye. Whenever a new title is announced in which Vaughan lends his pen, heads should turn and pre-orders should be attended to. It becomes a bonus when the creative team as a whole features some stellar individuals. Look no further than the freshly released title We Stand on Guard.
The premise is fairly simple on the surface: a group of freedom fighters remain in Canada, defending their country from the invading forces of the United States. What starts as a joke from the mouth of a young Canadian boy, living with his family in...

Confession. I really did mean to post a celebration of Canada yesterday on its special day.
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee I was even going to rework the lyrics of their national anthem or somesuch to celebrate my favorite movie Canadians: David Cronenberg, Norma Shearer, The Ryans (Gosling & Reynolds), Marie Dressler (Min & Bill!), Rachel McAdams, Fay Wray, Geneviève Bujold, Yvonne de Carlo, Molly Parker, Sarah Polley... the list would go on and on. Not to mention great Canadian movies like Away From Her, Lilies or Jesus of Montreal. What's your favorite person, movie or thing from Canada?
Norma, The First Lady of MGM (Her rank in Canada is unknown)
So to all our Canadian readers...
