This is the fifth episode of The Hills I've seen since I accidentally got exposed to it due to my TV having been open when an episode of the show began. Since there is a *huge* discrepancy between the User Rating the series has as a whole (3.4 at the time of writing) and individual episodes (7.9 for this one before I cast my vote), there was a need to address which one is a more accurate representation of the series value. The *reason* for the discrepancy is obvious, but let's state it for completeness' sake: the 3.4 comes from the votes of over 5,000 users and the 7.9 came from a mere *six* users. Obviously, most of these six are *fans* of the show and people in large do not bother with rating or even watching individual episodes.
I noticed something incredibly clumsy that I may have missed in the previous four episodes. Almost every time there is a new sequence (possibly after every ad break in USA, but there can't be *that* many breaks, can there?), *all* (with one or two exceptions)... participants (I almost wrote "characters") are introduced and re-introduced with names displayed on the screen. What the frak? There are two reasons I can think of: 1) The makers think the audience is so stupid they need to be reminded who they are watching, or, 2) The makers don't think at all. I don't know which is worse. One could argue that the re-introductions are delicious self-satire, acknowledging the show's participants' as fake - how *could* you be the real you with cameramen in your face? - but that would quite likely be wishful thinking. Also, logically it would then follow that the makers *do* think, which would in turn mean that the above-mentioned reason 1) is true. Therefore, I think it's safer to bet on reason 2).
