Somebody to Love (#2.6)
ComedyFan201024 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Jack hooks up with a woman who ends up being a democrat and fighting against environmental poisoning made by one the NBC's sister companies. Funny idea with hopefully some funny episodes in the future to come. My favorite part was Jack watching her movie, it was hilariously done.

Liz suspects her middle eastern neighbor to be a terrorist. I loved how this story turned out, the Amazing Race video was wonderful. Very well thought through and acted out story.

And Kenneth is on a mission to get money to reimburse Jack for the pants that he lost. I usually like Kenneth stories but here I must say I was a bit bored.

Somebody to Love is another very funny episode of "30 Rock"
tavm2 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Another funny episode of "30 Rock" I had to catch up on nbc.com. In this one, Kenneth loses the pants of Jack's suit so he tries to earn some money to buy a new one by performing some of the writers' dares like swallowing ketchup that expired a couple of months ago or scaring writer Lutz awake in a gorilla suit. Liz suspects a new Middle Eastern neighbor (Fred Armisen) is a terrorist. And Jack falls for a woman at a party named C.C. (Edie Falco) who he later finds is a Democratic senator...Not as funny as Greenzo, Somebody to Love is hilarious enough with welcome appearances of Tina's former SNL castmates like Armisen and Kristen Wiig who plays an actress who plays C.C. in a very funny Lifetime movie parody. "I'm...going into politics", Wiig says after the dog shoots her in the face! LOL! Also loved Tracy's Rerun (from "What's Happening!) impersonation in the cold opening. Some of the most memorable lines are, of course, from Alec Baldwin's Jack. When he mentions to Liz a party thrown by John McCain and Jack Bauer, Liz says she doesn't think he's real. Jack explains, "I assure you, Liz, John McCain is definitely real." There's many more like that but why should I tell you? Just watch. Will review another episode soon...

Fred Armisen guest stars
safenoe16 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Fred Armisen guest stars as Liz's neighbor Raheem Haddad, and this gets Liz all suspicious big time, but really Raheem was just wanting to audition for The Amazing Race. Edie Falco also guest stars as a Democratic Congresswoman, who Jack falls for big time. The big stars are turning for season 2 of 30 Rock, especially following the demise of its much vaunted rival Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip which ended too soon when NBC axed it after only one season. Not only that Studio 60 debuted at the same time as 30 Rock.

Well, if it isn't Mrs. Soprano...
MaxBorg8927 October 2008
In terms of pure and simple belly-laughs, Somebody to Love doesn't come near Rosemary's Baby or Greenzo, but thanks to smart writing, the spot-on ensemble and a bunch of juicy guest stars it stays just as good as one expects the show to be.

Predictably, the main incident concerns Jack, who has a one-night stand with Celeste "C.C." Cunningham (Edie Falco), only to discover she's a Democrat (oh dear!) and working on a lawsuit against one of NBC's sister companies. Not very good. Kenneth, on the other hand, has accidentally ruined Jack's pants and tries to raise money for a new pair, effectively subjecting himself to all kinds of humiliation from the writers. And then there's Liz, who believes her new neighbor might be a terrorist, on the grounds that he's Middle Eastern and acts in a suspicious way (go figure...).

The terrorism joke is great as it allows further focus on the recurring motif of Liz's latent racism (remember all the African-American gags in the first season?) and one of Tina Fey's former SNL colleagues to step into the spotlight (speaking of SNL: what the hell happened to Rachel Dratch?). As for the Jack storyline, it deserves kudos for giving Falco, still not quite past her image as Carmela Soprano (then again, that's the price for starring in the best TV drama ever made), to prove she has quite a gift for comedy as well, although that might derive from the fact that she's squaring off with Alec Baldwin instead of James Gandolfini. In any case, still a lot of fun, as always.

Best Episode This Season....So Far!
g-bodyl18 July 2014
This is the sixth episode of the second season of 30 Rock and I can happily say that it is the best episode of this young season. It's very funny, has sharp writing, relies intensively on the comedy from the actors, features not one, but two welcome guest stars, and the story lines are just funny. The guest stars are the always-funny Kristen Wiig and Edie Falco, who funnily seduces Jack.

In this episode, "Somebody to Love," Jack has a one-night stand with a Democrat named Celeste Cunningham who has brought forth a lawsuit against NBC's sister company. Meanwhile, Liz suspects her neighbor is a terrorist and Kenneth is trying to raise money to buy Jack a new pair of pants.

Overall, this is a absolutely hilarious episode. I loved the plot line with the terrorism and it's just so blatantly funny. Tina Fey is really comedic gold. I rate this episode 10/10.

Personal review

Warning: Spoilers
This review is to keep track of episodes of 30 Rock that I've enjoyed and enjoyed not so much so that I can rewatch later.

Somebody to Love was a bit of a disappointment, but as good as it gets for the first two seasons of the show. Edie Falco, Kristen wiig and Fred Armisen guest star and don't disappoint. There was one scene which made me laugh out loud. Written by Tina Fey.
