A very consistent episode which prepares the audience nicely for another season
potsi-13 July 2008
After reading comments about this episode that to me seem inaccurate i decided to express my opinion ...

I think that everyone agrees that the Mayfair mystery closed well with an appearance of Mary-Alice and Wayne getting what he deserved... I liked the fact that Kathrine shot him because it shows that good guys are human too...It was nice to see that the real Dylan died in an accident and wasn't murdered, making the story be a bit more creative. At this point I want to comment on people saying it is turning out to be a crime show...The answer is NO! Desperate Housewives is a dramedy and MYSTERY show...it always has been and will always be one...Yes, mystery does have crime involved but Desperate Housewives is not the story of two cops chasing bad guys!

Moving on to the most controversial aspect of the episode...The 5 years leap... I know that it is a major cliffhanger but stop attacking it since you have only seen a sample. I personally liked it, since it had both unexpected and expected elements. Haven't you ever told yourself "oh my god, some time ago if they told me i would turn out the way I have, I would laugh!"?. I think that this time-shift added the story lines for next season pretty realistically. I also want to say, that Susan not being with Mike wasn't presented as something dramatic. From the music of that last scene you can understand that the reaction that fits is more like "well would you look at that!" and not sobbing and crying...

To sum up, I think season 4 began great and ended the same way leaving the audience wanting more...

Warning: Spoilers
My favorite finale ever, the concept of what happened to Katherine was just too sad, i couldn't even imagine being in that kind of situation. With all that said the 5 years later was a great touch, they really step up this one

Season Four Cliff Hanger. Spoilers.
Kaname_Chidori22 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Okay. This season finale was a little overwhelming. I love the fact we got to hear the secret about Katherine Mayfair, Dylan and Wayne Davis. Of course, once we saw that Dylan didn't have the scar from when she was little, we all knew she wasn't the old Dylan. All the little things from this season added up to that. So that really was no surprise. And with Desperate Housewives background? Of course the little former Dylan died. And then the secret was, no pun intended, buried, until of course, Katherine spilled the beans.

I love the fact that near the beginning, Bree was sticking up for Katherine. Then when Bree was taken hostage by Wayne, Katherine put her life before Bree's. That said a lot to me, about the friendship that is still going around after all these seasons. The suspense when Wayne was going to shoot Bree in the knee was just unbearable for me, I was chewing on my nails, and my eyes were wide. That was shocking for me.

Still on the subject of friendship, at the end, everyone helped Katherine. Of course it was the right thing to do. But the looks they all gave Katherine at the end... I just personally can't wait to see more of her. At the beginning, I didn't like her, but she's grown on me. Also, when Dylan ran up to Katherine and hugged her like that. I found tears forming in my eyes.

Okay... This "5 years later" Business. I'm not buying it. Firstly, Gabby is my favourite character. She's sassy, glamorous and funny. I can see her being a mum turning out to be a funny process, but I just won't feel right with her being the regular soccer mum. With Lynette, well, we all saw her the twins becoming rebels, but Preston? That's just a little weird. We all knew Bree was going to become successful, that's just her. She's strong willed. So that's really no surprise. But I do love the fact that Dylan got engaged under the Eiffel tower. Katherine's face when she hears that just tells you they've gotten through the rough (really rough) patch and now they're both holding it together and doing fine. Last, but not least... Susan. And a new man. This is so not settling with me, no matter HOW hot he looks. Mike was this rugged, sexy plumber. Who's this yummy looking entrepreneur? And what happened? Jeez, come on DH. You can do better then this. Who said people got wise in their old age? Silly...

Out of 10? 6. Not the best. I found most of the episodes in this season more then pleasing though.

What the heck? "five years later" are u kidding me?
louise-oqvist26 May 2008
First of all, I love DH, I have seen every episode of every season. But whats the deal with the "five years later" thing? I really enjoyed the episode until the ending, it was really exiting to watch as always. But was this the last episode ever? at least it seemed that way.

This thing with Susan leaving mike? and the new guy looked like Adam the British guy she dated before she got back with mike, was it him? And Gabriel, thats just bad, shes known as the cool, selfish and beautiful woman, not a mom to two ugly kids, thats just not how i pictured it! The thing with Lynette, Katherine and Bree is not surprising though. Thats okay, but still I am a bit disappointed. Hope DH continues in the fall and that we get a big explanation.

Just felt I had to write something, got a bit surprised. Over N out

I rest my case, season 4 is « overrated ».
m-4782624 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After the tornado episode, the show was back to season 3 cringe, with characters being awful to each other, and some like Bree. Being insufferable self righteous trolls. Did writers forgot all her past lies and deceptions? Just because Orson did something awful to someone she's close to, doesn't mean it's more punishable than what she and her family did in the past. And even though Eddie is not my favorite character, I thought it was hypocritical of the « housewives » shunning her, for blackmailing Bree. Again, how many times did she or her friends, resorted to that, to cover their own tracks? To me season 4 made the leads dwell in double standards so much, it ruined most of its appeal. When not even the humor could excuse the bad characterizations anymore. Free, is a fitting title for an episode closing one of the most over the top, and unnecessarily dramatic mystery so far. Katherine needed to escape her violent ex husband, no denying that. But why did she adopt a little girl, after her own daughter died. In case he comes back? I think they were past all of that... At least it created a sort of buildup to that finale reveal, but it's the first time the false pretenses look so unnecessary, on this show. Why wasn't Dylan's recurring nightmares, mentioned again? And the fact that Bree became another hostage, was too reminiscent of season 1 finale. I loved how Adam saved the day, and Katherine finally getting closure. But everything regarding the mystery throughout the season, look too complex for something that wasn't. And as far as I'm concerned, Gabby's showdown with the drug dealer, was the part I was expecting the most. This also clearly applies to me, but I love that last minute five years flash forward. It gave the show the opportunity to « bounce back » and look exciting and new again. Like it did on OTH a year earlier. And season 5 is better in a lot of ways too. The writing redeemed characters I couldn't stand anymore, and the show was slick and intriguing again.

too dramatic to accept
ezemic19 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
this ending is absolutely the worst ever .it seems that the writers don't care about our audiences' feeling at all.it fulfills with betraying, lying, killing, and cheating. Gaby betrayed friend 2 twice, Bree cant forgive Orson (i hope the "5 year later" thing is kidding)when she never commit her foul to cover Andre' car knocking down at series 1, and the way tom and Lynette handling "miss little evil" is totally not responsible at. eventually, i had to commit that the series 4 is the worst. it is a family crime show. compared with series 1-3, it is too dramatic to accept. expect the tornado and cancer.and huffman could win amy. again,i hope the "5 year later" thing is kidding.

Meh...
Just-A-Girl-1424 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There are a lot of things that bother me about this episode and the season in general.

First, Bree is really ticking me off with her attitude. I mean, how self righteous is she?! When Andrew hit Carlos's mom with his car and run from the scene leaving an elderly woman to die in the street, Bree covered for him. But now all of a sudden Orson just HAS to go to jail because "it's the right thing to do". Why? How hypocritical is this?! Why is Mike more important than Carlos? At least Mike recovered. Carlos has to live with the agony that "someone" run over his beloved mother and got away unpunished. How is that "right"? At least Orson was sorry for what he did. Andrew couldn't care less when it happened and it doesn't seem he cares about it now either. Yes, one can argue that what Orson did is worse because it wasn't just an accident, it was attempted murder but Andrew was drunk and on top of that he is older now so if Bree is so concerned about "doing the right thing", why not send Andrew to jail too?! It's one thing to be self righteous condescending when your hands are clean but Bree's hands aren't clean at all so I find her behavior repulsive!

Second, Katherine's story doesn't add up at all. The story was interesting but if you really think about it, it doesn't make sense. No way such a huge furniture can crash and break (killing her little girl) without anyone in the house hearing it and I don't care if it happened simultaneously with her hitting her ex with a candle stick. There is also no sense in taking a similar looking little girl from a Romanian orphanage (not to mention that legally speaking there was no explanation as to how exactly she did that). What would be the reason for that? If you're scared of your ex husband just run! No need to put another little girl at risk. Run for your life, hide, disappear... If you can illegally smuggle a child from Romania to the US then you can also just go on the run. What was the plan? To wait until he finds them both and then what? Tell him it's not his kid in the hopes he would just leave? If he is so dangerous and abusive wouldn't he kill Katherine for cheating on him? And then what would happened to the little girl? No matter how you look at it, it's a stupid plan! I also like to point out that I wasn't really impressed with the acting. Katherine shed a lot of tears but I didn't feel her pain. I did like how Adam came to save the day and it was cool that the other housewives were willing to lie for Katherine but considering that lying to the police is a felony there was really no need for it. Adam was clearly beaten up, Bree was a witness and they had TWO dead bodies so as much as it was cute it was really unnecessary. And it's circling back to what I said about Bree. Who is she? The moral police? She decides what's right and when. It's absurd!

Morally speaking there was absolutely no coherency to this season. Even small things! Like with Edie for example. She decided to extort Bree and suddenly all the housewives decided that THAT is too much? So burning Susan's house down and stealing Mike and Carlos and causing Gabby to lose millions of dollars that's all ok but forcing Bree to make desserts or invite her to social events that's too much? It's ridiculous!!! Not to mention that they all pulled a lot of stuff so they aren't exactly squeaky clean.

Not the greatest season and definitely not the greatest season finale.
