A complete joy to watch!
lbrettschneider10 January 2024
From the clips I had seen on Instagram, I was afraid These Thems was going to feel "preachy" (and I'm the choir, fwiw). But I wanted to support it so I watched the first episode - and I was hooked immediately. It's funny, emotional, and relatable. There are scenes that explain pronouns, and the problems with "gender reveal" parties, but they're super funny and a natural part of the story. The characters are deep and wonderfully flawed, and I hope there will be a season two so I can keep watching them grow (also I want to be friends with them)!

I recommend this series to anyone and everyone. No matter how you identify or how familiar you are with queer culture, you will laugh, you will be entertained, you will feel seen, you will learn something (maybe even about yourself).

What Does 'These Thems' Mean to a Trans Woman in the USA?

Warning: Spoilers
These Thems is probably the first show centered around LGBTQ+ themes that I've watched. I watched the show for the first time recently, and everything about it was perfect in my opinion from the screenwriting to the acting. I have never in my life up until this point seen so much queer representation in a single show. Seeing so much representation of this community was really important to me because I identify as LGBTQ+ myself, and I often feel alone in my personal experience. One thing I'll spoil is that there is a character on the show who is a transgender man, Asher, who is also played by a real life self-indentifying transgender man who ends up coming out to his friends on the show. Seeing the portrayal of that character was really important to me because I'm myself a transgender woman, and it's really rare that I see trans representation in shows like sitcoms. In a socially divided country such as the United States, we need more shows like this to show that people like us do exist and that we have good and bad days just like everybody else. Thank you to everyone involved in putting this project together; I really enjoyed it!
