Christian, a zoologist at the Paris natural history museum, is passionate about a project to protect endangered wild geese by teaching them a safer migration route south along coastlines from Norway, even after the official sanction was withdrawn due to budget cuts. His gaming-addicted son Thomas (14) was sent on summer holiday by his divorced mother to the Camargue, where Christian is learning to breed and mentally imprint goslings. Thomas surprisingly bonds with geese and dad as their 'parents' (by first sight when hatching) to be followed everywhere, enough to come along to Norwegian Lapland for the release when they are to follow Christian's ultra-light airplane. Fixer Bjorn's connections don't suffice to prevent a clash with the police over failing permits and broken conditions. While the men are arrested, Thomas decides to take pa's pilot place. Even ill-prepared and obliged to steal or beg for supplies, he pulls it off, while his parents fret over his safety but the publicity forces the museum to embrace the project.
