Blair and Chuck
marthawilcox183116 August 2014
This is a really good episode. For a start, Dan explains the basics of life to his father and then says: 'Why do I have to be telling you this?' I get that. There are certain things that should be so obvious to a grown adult, especially someone twice your age, that it's embarrassing if you have to explain it to them like a baby.

Secondly, the scene between Blair and Chuck at night is great. She says to him: 'Wait a minute. Do you like me?' Horror of horrors, he does. 'You have got to be kidding', she says. 'How d'you think I feel?' Chuck responds. 'I haven't slept. I feel like butterflies fluttering in my stomach.' Blair ends the conversation by saying: 'This is not happening. Those butterflies, have got to be murdered.' Not only is this good writing, but Leighton Meester's delivery of these lines is exquisite. She really is a good actress even though she's playing a superficial character.

This scene is followed by another scene where Dan is introduced to Blair at her 17th birthday. Blair whispers to Serena: 'This is such a problem.' I know exactly how that feels. I've been introduced to people in church and I could see in their eyes them saying to themselves: 'This is such a problem. Why do I have to engage with this person?'

Dan's experience in high society is a universal experience that transcends the place and culture of the series.

~*-Relationships... hardly perfect-*~
aura7723 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Nate's parents are so messed up I would kill them myself. No wonder Nate is so confused with his Blair/Serena feelings. He seems to be a gentleman and Blair plays with him like a toy. I think their relationship needs more communication.

Blair's Seventeenth Birthday, Chuck wanting Blair, Serena and Vanessa getting along for Dan, Nate and Jenny having a heart to heart, and Allison is back! That's the resume.

~ Blair and Chuck: The most exquisite couple! Unique and.... well, different. Will this relationship work out? ~ Serena and Dan: They represent the cute lovesick couple on the show. Nothing bad happens to them, because they can work it out.

~ Nate and Jenny: Wouldn't that be really nice? Maybe he could have prevented her from turning into a bit*h.

~ Rufus and Allison: Disgusting! My favorite part of the episode was the last part when Blair received her present from Chuck. And of course, Nate and Jenny were really nice. Nate was nice actually.

Seventeen Candles (#1.8)

Warning: Spoilers
I like the decision Nate made. Going to Blair and lie to her would be inexcusable and really wrong to do to somebody he had such a long relationship with. They may not be right for each other but I am sure he still respects her. I am glad though to see more of Blair and Chuck, they seem to be great together. I liked their moment on the balcony. Or see him watch her being upset and one can see that he cares about it. Alison is back... Too bad I was kind of hoping for Rufus with Lily, although we don't know what will happen. It's not like she came on her own, he daughter asked her to.

Everything clicks!

Warning: Spoilers
Blair is ridden with guilt over her fling with Chuck. To make matters worse, she's got her 17th birthday party coming up and she's still not over the breakup with Nate. Vanessa has a bad habit of showing up at the wrong place at the wrong time. Dan decides to take Vanessa to Blair's birthday party, hoping she and Serena will bond. It ends up backfiring by making Serena more uncomfortable. Jenny puts her family in a tough position when she brings home her mother, Allison Humphrey. Rufus is still heartbroken that Allison left him to concentrate on other things. Nate's parents selfishly ask Nate to make a humongous sacrifice to save his father's business as he faces embezzlement and fraud charges.

This is a fantastic episode. Almost everything clicks in this one. I would hate to live in New York with these people. Everything is so scrutinized and nothing is private. It's one of the things that makes Gossip Girl such a good show. My favorite thing about this show right now is the love triangle with Dan, Serena, and Vanessa. It's so awkward, yet so entertaining at the same time. I cringed during the opening when Vanessa catches Dan and Serena having some 'private time' Vanessa is a good girl, but she always shows up at the wrong place at the wrong time. I did get a kick out of watching Serena and Vanessa bond a bit over guitar hero near the end. It's also interesting to watch a devious scumbag like Chuck fall for somebody like Blair. Allison Humphrey is a nice addition to the show. I felt it added some intense drama. Not to go unnoticed, I thought Nate's storyline was well done as well. Nate may be my least favorite character on the show, but he's starting to show some personality. I felt really bad for him and his plight. Special mention to Blair for her hilarious confession. I won't spoil it.

This is an excellent episode. As I said, almost everything clicks in this one. Every storyline is engaging and the characters are coming together nicely.

The One With Blair's Seventeenth Birthday...
taylorkingston24 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I really love this episode. It's mainly because of the Blair and Chuck moments, because they are my favorite couple of the show. It's one of my all-time favorite episodes from this season, and the entire series.

In this episode, it's Blair's seventeenth birthday, and she is devastated by the current state of her and Nate's relationship. At her birthday party, she tries to show a happy face, but when Nate doesn't call, like he always does, she gets depressed, and ends up going to Chuck for comfort. He has also revealed that he may have feelings for Blair. Meanwhile, Jenny and Dan's Mother comes into town.

Best part of the episode: The Chuck and Blair moments.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Freaking Ridonkulous.
