Meh.
jamosmonk19 June 2022
Poorly acted. Not very believable. Cannot maintain suspension of disbelief. It is Long. Long and slow. Pretentious. Tries to be stylistic and fails. Music score is weak. It's as if it doesn't know what kind of film it wants to be. Fight scenes passable. It's not as if they didn't try, it just needs focus and one unifying vision. It's several genre of films stitched together.

If you are suspicious about watching this, you should be.
NaranekAngmar20 May 2022
The movie itself was alright, not as bad as some people are making it out to be.

Now you may notice a lot of reviewers think it is the best movie made in the past 100 years, and deserves a perfect 10. What is suspicious is all these one or two line reviews were posted on the same day in August 2019. One might think someone connected to the production of the movie came on to imdb to inflate the rating.

MacGruber is back!! Wait, what??
redskies-3219113 June 2022
Thought this was a Macgruber sequel for about 20 minutes in, but sadly it's not. The main character even looks a bit like Will Forte! Unfortunately, it's just a regular old movie -- no throat rips, no sex scenes on the tombstone with the ghost of your dead wife, and no distracting the enemy with a stalk of celery sticking out of your butt. I'm going to go watch Macgruber. I would suggest you do the same.

What?????????????
drjgardner10 August 2019
It's always a problem when the central characters are all blond women and men with half shaved faces. Are these different people or the same people at different times? Who knows? Who cares? Is this a film about an assassin, or corporate espionage,or a pair of lovers? Who knows? Who cares? Did someone get a discount on a guitar player to score the entire film? Who knows? Who cares?

Confusing is not the same as compelling.

Warning: Spoilers
It feels like the characters can hear dialogue that you are missing, because somehow they seem interested enough in the plot to keep going, well after I zoned out entirely.

Everything in this movie was done better by another movie, including the big twist ending.

Don't both watching if you haven't already

FLASH BACK ON TOP OF FLASH BACKS.

Three times running at one time all the time.

Just a absolute mess, put it in line and chop out rubbish not needed.

Would be interesting to see someone re-cut correctly.

Sound is horrible with no boom mic likely have to turn up and subtitles help.

Music is painful and not balanced and uter boring.

Worst movie I've seen for a very long time ago.

Just drags on and on and on and on.

Had high hopes and then needed to come here and see if others thought was rubbish too.

What people say you ready and think, yes yes yes that is correct.

Who called his phone when he got into the helicopter?

Ecco Breaks the Spy Movie Stereotype
drewdaddy6811 August 2019
Director Ben Medina does an incredible job of changing the typical spy movie narrative. Yes, it has action, intrigue and mind-bending twists, but Ecco focusses on the human element as well.

Not what I was expecting...
avaxcontrol21 May 2022
This movie was not what I was expecting, but in a good way. I went in not knowing much but figuring it was a kind of mindless action film -which I like, sometimes that's all you want. But really if that's what you're looking for this movie is probably not for you, because it's not mindless at all. There is action, but there's a lot more focus on the plot than your average action flick. No spoilers, I'll just say that combination really worked for me. It made me overlook the few flaws, parts where it dragged a little or was confusing. Overall it held my attention and was different so I was into it. Beautifully shot, which is weird to say about an action movie lol Never heard of any of the actors but I thought the lead did a great job making what could have been a kind of unbelievable character seem real and actually making me care.

Bottom line, if you go into this expecting pure adrenaline you will probably not enjoy it. But if you want a more in-depth story to spark conversation along with some action, this will work for you like it did for me.

Awful
bpenelope15 August 2019
2 hours of my life I will never get back. Started with about 12 people in the theater. At the end, there were 3. Slow, terrible.

Go See It!
jakem-7566011 August 2019
The Dude sums it up: "This is a very complicated case, Maude. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. And, uh, lotta strands to keep in my head, man." The story has a lot of twists and turns and you gotta pay attention to catch them all and keep up. You get a generous mix of action, intrigue and build up. But it's worth the ride to get to the end. On top of the interesting story, there's some really beautiful cinematography, well crafted shots, and a great score that reminded me of Blade Runner.

Very pretty film, intense, interesting pace and style

From the opening scene I was intrigued, Real good acting and story telling. Would have done a few things differently but doesn't take away from the overall picture. I left satisfied.

Long and hard to follow
kentmanning-4848610 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was in the theatre tonight during opening night in Port Townsend. While I knew it was going to be a long night during the dialogue among the actors in the first scene in the passenger cabin of the jet. There was at least one nice surprise. One being the acting of Michael's first wife. Well done there. I kept waiting for the story to start and it was a long time before some things came together. Perhaps I was just not in the right frame of mind this evening to enjoy the film. But I found it repetitive, and just plain uninteresting in many places. And really hard to follow. I did enjoy the Q & A after the film, as I believe Mr. Medina has his heart in the right place. I'll be following along to see whether his next film will perhaps get me. But unfortunately, not this time.

Pretentious boring rubbish
domialenic21 May 2022
I am actually not going to say a lot about this movie as I didn't bother to watch it out. I am only saying that I was misled by the 6.6 average rating which is a very high rating. One should get suspicious when the ratings are either 10 or 1 to 2. That means that the low ratings are actual genuine feedback and the 10 ratings from the cast, friends and family. Terrible acting, a confusing and incoherent story, boring and pretentious trying to be something it is clearly not. Do not waste your time on this.

Convoluted unwatchable nonsense, dressed up in a pretty dress.
Top_Dawg_Critic26 June 2023
Convoluted unwatchable nonsense, dressed up in a pretty dress.

Literally 123 minutes of repetitive flashbacks of convoluted nonsense and illogical storytelling with endless dragged out scenes, with a few sweet shots of cinematography here and there. Absolutely terrible acting, directing, editing and writing makes this the worst film I've seen in a very long time. Medina needs to take up basket-weaving or something else. If half the effort wasted on all the shill reviews went towards decent filmmaking, there may have been something watchable here.

Utterly terrible, meaningless and snail slow
ml7019 May 2022
Has all the production values of a bait and switch tv series pilot. First an engaging exciting airplane heist scene, after which practically nothing happens during the entire rest of the film. Almost 2 hours of overtly long drawn out scenes in which nothing of importance happens. Think about a bad slow tv drama and then double the slowness, it's unbelievable.

The music can be good at times and hides the fact that nothing of importance is happening, because the music conveys a sense of thrill. Take out the music and realize you're watching endless filler footage which simply does not matter. How this ever got distribution is a mystery, even Troma should've declined this borefest.

Not your typical action movie
Kateskees11 August 2019
The mystery of the storyline in ECCO was very intriguing and kept me engaged. The cinematography was especially captivating. The performances by the three main actors had nuances that didn't just give away the story or the twists. Additionally, I appreciated seeing different faces on screen than the normal ones in a genre like this because it leads one to think that these people could be anyone.

A visually stunning experience with some outstanding editing, an appropriate score, and a storyline rewriting recent clichés
godsnames26 May 2022
I really like this movie.

First of all: it's a movie. Its camerawork is outstanding, makes you feel like you are watching some big budget film. There is no shaky, home video-like pictures, but a visual story which, many times, takes your breath away. The amazing editing also do that for you.

Second: the original score is in perfect alignment with the story. There are no popular songs used, thank for God.

Third: the story a bit scrambled sometimes with the flashbacks maybe overused. Also, the cloning and / or ruthless conditioning has been seen many times in recent years. Maybe that is the weakest point of this feature, yet the performances of the actors and actresses make it quite acceptable.

Good movie. Well worth to watch.

Beautiful and Thrilling
jaycielewis11 August 2019
This movie really makes you think! The love stories were a nice addition and made feel a deeper connection with the characters. The entire movie has you questioning the plot and wondering where it will go. The twist at the end was like a nice cherry on top and quite a surprise. The acting was genuine and real and the scenes were beautifully shot. Overall a really fun movie!

Good quality but confusing plot
t2do2dl2da19 June 2022
The quality of the movie is good.

But there is no explanation for what is going on.

Too much cryptic dialogue with no back story to make it understandable.

Many long and unnecessary scenes, with meaningless dialogue that did not explain or add to the story line.

Movie should have just be a little over one hour.

Watchable but not deeply enjoyable.

Horrible....1/10
tadeconllc15 June 2022
This was a complete waste of time. Someone should've paid me to watch this mess. Honestly, the director should be doing something in the restaurant industry, perhaps a line cook, or a waiter. And here I thought "Slipstream" was the worst. Nope, not anymore.

Cinematography 10/10. Everything else gets a 2
rankinesam-6010020 May 2022
Terrible movie, terrible acting. Warning others that this forgettable film is NOT worth your time. Long drawn out flashback sequences with a plot we've already seen 100 x before. Great film for Netflix and chill since you won't be watching the movie.

Too slow
abcarleton21 May 2022
The pace is too slow and the plot is confusing in places. It started strong then slipped into a slow decline that will leave you yarning for the sweet release of the end credits. Would have benefited from a ruthless edit.

Sleep inducing nothingness.
djochoa-168669 September 2023
I tried to watch through this to the end and gave up, because nothing happens in this movie. It's two hours of confusing, random flashbacks, silence alternated with cryptic voiceovers, and drawn-out, artful camera work that has nothing to do with advancing any plot. It seems like about 40 minutes of the movie is super slow softcore romance scenes, with the actors pawing and kissing and moaning in slow motion for no purpose other than to inflate the run time.

Utterly pointless drivel, with a soundtrack that is always going hard and weird to try and convince you that drama is happening. It isn't. There's no chronology to grasp because everything is so cut up, no pay off for the slog of waiting for something to happen or make sense, no dialogue that doesn't sound like it was written by a failed poet, no piece of music that isn't so exaggerated it makes what little is happening on screen seem comical. Don't waste your time and don't believe all the rabid, shilling reviews that obviously come from the staff or producers involved.
