The entire film was shot in 6 days with 27 camera set-ups. Ascent (set-ups: 2), Descent (set-ups: 12), Numb (set-ups: 1), Awake (set-ups: 8), Rebirth (set-ups: 4).
The home video footage in the film is actual home footage of writer/director Alex Withrow and his family.
Director Alex Withrow asked star Nick Dostal to not prepare or rehearse his acting for Part I: Ascent as Withrow wanted a raw and uninhibited performance. Withrow also told Dostal that they would shoot the section in just two takes, thereby eliminating any coverage "safety nets" in editing.
Part II: Descent was shot in the same exact type of hotel room as the real event. While it was a different hotel specifically, the floor plans of both rooms were identical.
Part III: Numb consists of one single take. This take was shot 10 times, with two takes being unusable due to technical issues. The shot used in the final film is all take three.
