And I mean the best Cartoon Network TV movie. It's got the best plot, the best pacing, the best layouts and the most entertaining script. It rarely drags, if ever, and keeps you interested the whole way through. The style, while flat and simple, is fun to look at. The loose-limbed, pie-eyed Spinel is superbly animated. Her fight scenes, particularly, recall anime like 'Kill la Kill' and 'Little Witch Academia', and those scenes are animated by the same guy. Or possibly the works of Shinya Ohira, who did 'The Animatrix'.
It's probably the most stylish Cartoon Network movie since 'The Powerpuff Girls' movie.
In my opinion, the best Cartoon Network movies aren't just about a big adventure, but about personal growth. Those movies stick with you the longest. For all its faults, the element of personal growth is something 'Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show' did really well, and no wonder. Before this movie came out, that movie was critically the highest acclaimed Cartoon Network TV movie. 'Steven Universe: The Movie' gets the edge for its pacing and for not overdoing any extreme closeups.
