I thought the opening scene of this episode, with Sookie and Bill, was extremely moody and well-shot/directed. Add to that the scene with them in the bathtub - the music was great ('Just Like Heaven' was the song playing). The moody piano cues really added a lot. It's scenes like these that I most look forward to when watching this show. Sookie asking about the different vampire myths one by one, and Bill explaining that they're all basically a bunch of bull was great too (I know many, many vampire movies/shows have had a scene similar to this - with it being explained what vampire legends are "real" and which aren't - but the way they did it in this show was particularly well-written, I thought). I wish the scene had lasted even longer. Another really good part was Bill showing her where he sleeps under his house, and informing her that no one else knows where he rests (thereby proving how much he trusts her). Their scenes together are so good.
The opposite of this, of course, was Jason stealing his grandma's stuff so he could get more V. What a lowlife. I'm glad that when he hypocritically voiced his distaste at Sookie having sex with Bill/letting him bite her, she threw right back in his face the fact that at least Bill didn't *hit* her like Jason had in the previous episode. I'm glad she took charge and kicked him out. Just when you think he can't sink any lower...he sinks lower.
I love Sam's collie! I just got to get that out of the way right now. But then, I think I love Sam too (as a character). I just really like him and everything he does/says. And his scenes with Tara are probably the best ones featuring her, as she's more tolerable around him than when she's around other characters (I couldn't have cared less about the exorcism storyline, and I HATED seeing the possum drowned. Quit it, show!). Even though, as per usual, Sam was coming on a little too strong with Sookie in the bar (going so far as to rip her unsubtle scarf off her neck and reveal Bill's bite marks), it at least shows that he's concerned for her wellbeing. It's strange that, on the one hand, I can understand where Sam's coming from with his attitude towards vampires/Bill, but on the other hand... I actually *like* Bill, and even though I'm a Sam fan, when he lets his jealousy of Bill show through his actions - that's probably when I like him (Sam) slightly less.
I recognised the actress playing the Amy character as Lizzy Caplan (from Cloverfield, Smallville and various other things). Jason was almost bearable when he shared scenes with her, but I didn't really like her character very much. Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I've really ever liked any of the characters she's played. I can tell she's a good/decent actress, but I always wind up taking a disliking to the characters who she plays (and her character in True Blood is no exception). Then there's Ryan Kwanten who plays Jason. I don't like Jason (I think I've made that pretty clear), but he's doing a pretty good job portraying the character (especially considering he comes from the Aussie soap, Home & Away). Though I'm not a fan of either of their characters, both actors do a fine job in their roles.
I was glad that Bill ended up offing Sookie's uncle. After seeing the flashback to him with young Sookie, I can safely say that his demise was well-deserved.
I'm unsure what to make of the two blonde vampires (Eric and Pam) from "Fangtasia" at this point, since we've seen them only briefly so far. They're all very dark and broody, but they need more development/screen time for me to form a solid opinion of them.
So that was Sam running amongst the trees - naked - near the end there? I can appreciate the show taking its time in reaching the eventual "reveal" of what Sam's deal is...but they really aren't going for subtlety, are they?
I really didn't like that trio of vampires who came into Sam's bar. What I DID like, though, was Bill playing along and acting like he would indeed rejoin them, but at the same time he was giving Sookie subtle nods and telling her with his eyes that he was only pretending/acting. I don't think Sookie got it, though (and how dopey were those vampires for actually believing that Bill was willing to rejoin them? A bit of a 180 since their last encounter with him, no?). I was glad the three of them got torched in their coffins. The ending of the episode made it seem as though we're supposed to worry that Bill was in the fourth coffin, but...somehow...I doubt he was.
