Two Demons, a Naked Man and Four Vampires
claudio_carvalho20 September 2009
Sookie is not grieving the death of Adele; actually she is in love with Bill and extremely happy and her colleagues and the clients of the Merlotte's have negative thoughts about her relationship with the vampire. Meanwhile Tara decides to give the money to her mother for her exorcism. The addicted Jason heads to Fangtasia trying to buy vampire blood; he does not succeed but he meets Amy Burley, who gives him the drug and they experience a great connection to each other. Three vampires come to the Merlotte's and Bill lives the place with them; later three locals head to their house and throw Molotov cocktail burning the place.

In this episode, Tara's mother is convinced that she has a demon inside her and changes her behavior after the exorcism. Jason meets the weird Amy and they have a trip together. The behavior of Sookie is strange considering that her beloved grandmother has just passed away. Why was Sam running naked in the forest? My vote is eight.

You mess with Bill Compton, I promise, you WILL be a dead thing...
Chalice_Of_Evil30 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the opening scene of this episode, with Sookie and Bill, was extremely moody and well-shot/directed. Add to that the scene with them in the bathtub - the music was great ('Just Like Heaven' was the song playing). The moody piano cues really added a lot. It's scenes like these that I most look forward to when watching this show. Sookie asking about the different vampire myths one by one, and Bill explaining that they're all basically a bunch of bull was great too (I know many, many vampire movies/shows have had a scene similar to this - with it being explained what vampire legends are "real" and which aren't - but the way they did it in this show was particularly well-written, I thought). I wish the scene had lasted even longer. Another really good part was Bill showing her where he sleeps under his house, and informing her that no one else knows where he rests (thereby proving how much he trusts her). Their scenes together are so good.

The opposite of this, of course, was Jason stealing his grandma's stuff so he could get more V. What a lowlife. I'm glad that when he hypocritically voiced his distaste at Sookie having sex with Bill/letting him bite her, she threw right back in his face the fact that at least Bill didn't *hit* her like Jason had in the previous episode. I'm glad she took charge and kicked him out. Just when you think he can't sink any lower...he sinks lower.

I love Sam's collie! I just got to get that out of the way right now. But then, I think I love Sam too (as a character). I just really like him and everything he does/says. And his scenes with Tara are probably the best ones featuring her, as she's more tolerable around him than when she's around other characters (I couldn't have cared less about the exorcism storyline, and I HATED seeing the possum drowned. Quit it, show!). Even though, as per usual, Sam was coming on a little too strong with Sookie in the bar (going so far as to rip her unsubtle scarf off her neck and reveal Bill's bite marks), it at least shows that he's concerned for her wellbeing. It's strange that, on the one hand, I can understand where Sam's coming from with his attitude towards vampires/Bill, but on the other hand... I actually *like* Bill, and even though I'm a Sam fan, when he lets his jealousy of Bill show through his actions - that's probably when I like him (Sam) slightly less.

I recognised the actress playing the Amy character as Lizzy Caplan (from Cloverfield, Smallville and various other things). Jason was almost bearable when he shared scenes with her, but I didn't really like her character very much. Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I've really ever liked any of the characters she's played. I can tell she's a good/decent actress, but I always wind up taking a disliking to the characters who she plays (and her character in True Blood is no exception). Then there's Ryan Kwanten who plays Jason. I don't like Jason (I think I've made that pretty clear), but he's doing a pretty good job portraying the character (especially considering he comes from the Aussie soap, Home & Away). Though I'm not a fan of either of their characters, both actors do a fine job in their roles.

I was glad that Bill ended up offing Sookie's uncle. After seeing the flashback to him with young Sookie, I can safely say that his demise was well-deserved.

I'm unsure what to make of the two blonde vampires (Eric and Pam) from "Fangtasia" at this point, since we've seen them only briefly so far. They're all very dark and broody, but they need more development/screen time for me to form a solid opinion of them.

So that was Sam running amongst the trees - naked - near the end there? I can appreciate the show taking its time in reaching the eventual "reveal" of what Sam's deal is...but they really aren't going for subtlety, are they?

I really didn't like that trio of vampires who came into Sam's bar. What I DID like, though, was Bill playing along and acting like he would indeed rejoin them, but at the same time he was giving Sookie subtle nods and telling her with his eyes that he was only pretending/acting. I don't think Sookie got it, though (and how dopey were those vampires for actually believing that Bill was willing to rejoin them? A bit of a 180 since their last encounter with him, no?). I was glad the three of them got torched in their coffins. The ending of the episode made it seem as though we're supposed to worry that Bill was in the fourth coffin, but...somehow...I doubt he was.

Addictions -- a real mofo
skay_baltimore18 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Tara's mom isn't an alcoholic -- she's got a demon inside of her. And so she seeks help from an exorcist. For a fee.

Jason's got a real Jones for V. And after he strikes out trying to score some from LaFayette he heads over to Fangtasia, where he meets Amy -- a sort of cool, hippie chick who's got some V. They go back to Jason's and after a little ritualistic ceremony, they snort the V, then get their altered-consciousness groove on.

Meanwhile...Sookie gets hooked on Bill. (Literally and figuratively)

The exorcist shows Tara her demon but she's not ready to confront it.

Sookie tells Bill that her uncle sexually molested her when she was a young child. Needless to say...things don't turn out too well for her uncle. (I wonder...could he be the one in the 4th coffin?)

Bill's 3 vampire nest friends show up at Merlotte's & threaten Sookie. Bill shows up just in time, then leaves with them.

Redneck vigilanteism -- 3 rednecks firebomb the house that Bill's vampire nest friends bought. Firemen pull out 4 coffins containing 4 as yet unidentified bodies.

Sam is running around like his hair's on fire. Naked.

Things heat up
lastliberal21 October 2008
This was the best episode yet.

Sookie and Bill's relationship heats up to the point where you think there is some magic there, but he acts strangely at a later point in the show. What is he up to? I think I can guess, and I bet I know who the 4th body is.

Jason is definitely getting himself into trouble. Maybe he needs to watch Blue Sunshine to see where this is all going to lead for him. In the meantime, he has hooked up with one hot hippie.

Tara is forced to face the face that her mom isn't the only one with problems. Another fine performance by Rutina Wesley, who, after Sookie, is the best actor on this show.

Everything is getting hotter and this show just keeps you glued to the set.

True Blood: Burning House of Love
Scarecrow-8829 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Sookie allows Bill to drink her blood and surrenders herself to him. Bill's former vampire pack(last seen in the episode "Mine") show up at Sam's bar to cause a ruckus, demanding their former member's return to the group. The trio of troublemaking rednecks, always frequenting Merlottes(the ones always into it with Lafayette) decide to blow up the house for which Bill's vampire clan currently rest. Bill, after killing and disposing of Adele's child molesting brother(who Sookie mentions having touched her as a little girl), winds up at Merlottes just in the nick of time as his former associates are about to endanger human lives, going away with them supposedly to their new home. Four bodies were recovered burnt to a crisp and Sookie fears Bill was one of them. Jason is desperate for some more V and when Lafayette won't provide him anymore, he goes to Eric Northman's vampire bar looking for some authentic juice. There he meets Amy Burley(the stunning Lizzy Caplan)who practically saves his life as Jason was asking around for the V which is never a bright idea when amongst a large number of vampires. Amy has some of the V and wants to go home with Jason, a safer place to "snort" the juice..we see here that V applied to aspirin gives off an extra sensation not yet experienced by Jason. Meanwhile, Tara pays for her mother's exorcism, and while a skeptic at first, it seems to have rid Lettie Mae(Adina Porter)of the demon that ailed her..this is where the exorcist claims that Tara herself has a demon! I love all these wild directions the show takes us such as the scene where Sam is seen running through the woods naked or Jason shooting his mouth off about scoring some vampire blood unaware that the undead would suck him dry for such a request. I really hope Amy becomes an important character as she's one of those hippies who talks about far-out stuff Jason has no clue about..their conversation is so bizarre I couldn't help but enjoy it. That's what I'm digging about this show..you just never know what might happen next, an odd development or revelation that throws you for a loop. Sookie is all jovial and energetic since that passionate night with Bill and her coworkers have a hard time accepting such behavior, a relationship with a vampire.

Love and addiction
Tweekums21 November 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Having consummated her relationship with Bill Sookie is convinced that he the one for her and that any violent instincts he might have are firmly under control, although it appears this isn't quite true when he goes off to deal with Sookie's uncle who had inappropriate thoughts (and possibly deeds) about her when she was a child. Sookie doesn't want everybody to know that she slept with Bill but after telling one friend everybody knows and most do not approve.

Sookie isn't the only person with problems, her friend Tara takes her mother to see an exorcist as she continues to blame her alcoholism on a demon. Whether the exorcist is genuine or not is hard to tell, after all if vampires are real in the contexts of the story why not demons? Sookie's brother Jason seems to have his own demon too, in his case an addiction to vampire blood which takes him to Fangtasia, the vampire bar. Here he meets a hippy girl who has what he needs.

Things heat up at the end, literally, when a vampire's house is burnt down and four coffins found, it looks like Bill may have been in one of them... although I'd bet he wasn't.

As with other episodes the acting has been good, something that is essential in a story where the view must suspend their disbelief and accept that there are vampires living openly in the American south. The location itself obviously helps with the prejudices against the vampires mirroring earlier racial prejudices.

S1.E7 - Very Entertaining [9/10]
panagiotis19931 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E7) My Live Reaction / Review for True Blood Season 1 Episode 7 ''Burning House of Love''. Episode 6 was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. I don't know if Tara's mom actually has a demon inside her or if she has serious mental health issues plus an alcohol addiction. Sam is so jealous of Bill, I love it. Jason's V addiction is out of control. Bill attacked the perv uncle? Im sure Sookie wouldnt like that. That lady who will do the exorcism for Tara's mom looks a bit crazy. Bill killed the uncle? Damn that's so evil. I feel bad for Terry, seems like he has serious PTSD. This lady thinks that Tara has a demon too? Sam was running naked? He is definitely a werewolf, im sure. So the way to kill a vampire is to know where they sleep. Overall a great episode, my rating is 9/10.
