Legendary rock musician Lou Reed died on Sunday (Oct. 27) at the age of 71, but his influence on the music scene and American culture will live on forever.
The Velvet Underground leader and rock pioneer introduced avant garde rock and pop art to mainstream music. He also famously collaborated with Andy Warhol, and the band joined Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable.
Reed led Velvet Undergound through four albums and numerous line-up changes, before moving on to lead a successful solo career.

Rock music lost a legend on Sunday (Oct. 27).
Velvet Underground leader and rock pioneer Lou Reed passed away at 71, Rolling Stone reports. While the cause of death has not yet been released, Reed did undergo a liver transplant in May.
Reed is best known for his work as guitarist, singer, and songwriter for the Velvet Underground and his solo career. The musician influenced the music scene in a major way by introducing avant garde rock and pop art to mainstream music. He also famously collaborated with Andy Warhol, and the band joined Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable.
Through four albums and numerous line-up changes, Reed led Velvet Underground, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. Reed also went on to a successful solo career.
