Netflix is further expanding its slate of unscripted TV content from Japan, its most lucrative market in East Asia. The new shows cover the reality, variety and dating genres.
“We’re excited to move into a new phase of our content strategy, ramping up our investments in unscripted and bringing new concepts to the screen. We want to elevate the unscripted category with great production values and storytelling from Japan’s most innovative creative voices,” said Netflix Japan content manager Dai Ota on Thursday at a company showcase in Seoul, Korea. Some 15 unscripted titles are current in preparation.
The previously-announced dating show “Is She the Wolf” will be aired outside Japan from Sept. 3. Developed with broadcaster Abema and adapted from the original show “Who Is the Wolf,” which previously ran for 13 seasons, the show follows five men and five women on a quest for love through dates and a group project.

Netflix is betting big on reality TV as it seeks to expand its reach in Japan, a key international growth market amid plateauing subscriber gains for streaming services in much of the West. The company unveiled a slate of five reality series Wednesday at its offices in Seoul, South Korea, during an event showcasing unscripted content across Asia. The slate reveals Netflix leaning heavily into dating and variety show formats in Japan, two of the country’s most popular TV categories.
The lineup includes quirky dating shows Is She the Wolf? and Love Like a K-Drama, and an intimate spin on Japan’s well-worn comedy-variety category, Lighthouse, featuring musician-actor Gen Hoshino and comedian Masayasu Wakabayashi. Two renewals round out the slate: Second season orders for the comedy competition show Last One Standing and the middle-aged dating show Love Village.

Netflix has announced a slate of Japanese dating, comedy and reality shows, part of a wider push into Asian unscripted content, which also takes in South Korea and India.
Speaking at a showcase in Seoul, Netflix Japan content manager Dai Ota highlighted the importance of unscripted content in the wider Japan market, accounting for 70% of linear programming in 2022, with sketch comedy, dating and other reality formats among the most popular.
Heading Netflix’s Japan slate are romance-themed reality shows including Is She The Wolf?, a co-production with Japanese broadcaster Abema; a second season of Love Village; and a new hybrid format, Love Like A K-Drama. The latter show, which starts streaming from November 28, pairs up four Japanese actresses and four Korean actors to see if real-life romance can be sparked by a Korean drama-inspired kissing scene.

There's been a lot of speculation surrounding the standalone Star Wars films that are being developed by Lucasfilm. It's almost certain that one of these movies is going to center on everyone's favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett. There has already been a good amount of news sorrounding a movie based on this character and today we have a new one to add to the list.
The Schmoes at Schmoes Know are saying their inside source has confirmed that Empire Strikes Back screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan is in the process of writing the script for the film. A rumor about this started about five months when Metalocalypse director Jon Schnepp said:
.One of them is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan..
We later learned that Disney and Lucasfilm were...

Oh, isn't it good to have The Big Reunion back? As the sort of people who grew up pasting Top of the Pops stickers on every available surface, it's pleasing that we can revisit the glory years with the help of an ITV2 show on these cold, wet January nights. And boy, episode one did not disappoint. But as pop devotees, what exactly did we learn? Well, read on for the all-important lessons from tonight's instalment...
1. Andi Peters is still cheeky.
Well. Andi's narration was one of the best things about tonight's show, but we admit to blushing at times. "Simon Cowell splashed his massive wad in the direction of a famous French landmark." Andi, this is a family show! (Praise, though, for dubbing 'Freak Me' a "bonking anthem".)
2. Girl Thing's Nikki is voice twins with Philomena Cunk from Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe.
Seriously. It's creepy.
3. Victoria Beckham is loads of fun.

Since we grew up surrounded by Top of the Pops and Smash Hits magazines, we were always going to be pretty happy with the lineup for series two of The Big Reunion. While others moaned about the lack of big names, we were chuffed. 3T? Check. Damage? Yep, remember them. Eternal? Obviously. A1? Well, we were a bit old for them, but then Ben was adorable on Big Brother. Brand new supergroup 5th Story? Our karaoke dreams made a reality.
But even we were left scratching our heads when Girl Thing were announced. Sure, we remember them vaguely trying to be a hit; we remember their one big song 'Last One Standing' in the sense that if someone hummed it we might have some kind of recollection. We know Jodi Albert, of course. But were Girl Thing really going to hit the nostalgic value of series one of The Big Reunion?...

It's been two weeks of disappointing "Survivor's" in a row, as Colton went out very unceremoniously last week, while this week just kind of baffles us. Oh, and Tarzan is insane.
Post Merge
The castaways are pumped about their merge feast, as one would be. Alicia continues to be snotty about Christina - oooh, I hope she gets hers (Alicia). She sucks big time. In the morning, they decide their new tribe name is Tikiano, which kind of means "Year of the God." Lame.
It'll be interesting to see if the tribe falls along the Salani/Manono tribes or the guys/girls tribes. Tarzan is trying to rally the men together plus Alicia will be the voting alliance. Hmm. I would think Christina would be a better play than Alicia for someone to defect. However, Mike isn't even down with a men's alliance anyway.

In the "Big Brother 13" house, it looked like the plan was for the Veterans to keep Dominic and get rid of Adam. But oh, how things change in the house.
Fight! Fight! Fight!
So following Brendon not using the Pov on Adam/Dom, Daniele kind of loses her mind. Brendon is saying they don't trust her anymore - she played too hard to try to get them to backdoor Jeff. But Jeff blames Dominic for the backdoor plan, so Dominic is getting blamed for Dani's plan and he amazingly does not throw her under the bus to Jeff. Jeff keeps saying he wants somebody to "tell him what he wants to hear," which is pretty much exactly the opposite of telling the truth. Shut up, Jeff.
Jeff's "logic" is that Dominic leaves the house now because he knew about Daniele's plan and didn't rat her out to the other Veterans.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo got dressed up for a friend's birthday party at Beso in Hollywood on Saturday. Nick chose a '70s wig for the event and Vanessa was decked out in '80s gear while other stars donned '20s costumes for Eva Longoria's bash across town. The duo's fun night out coincided with the release of Nick's new single, "Last One Standing," which is the fight song for the Ncaa Big East Conference as they head into March Madness. Nick's gearing up for the college basketball tournament and Vanessa's soon heading to NYC, but they're still moving forward with plans for their upcoming nuptials. Nick's made it clear that he doesn't plan on singing at the event, though, saying, "I think I'll leave the wedding songs to somebody else." View Slideshow ›...

Nick Lachey is such a die-hard sports fan that he's now making music inspired by basketball. I kid you not. Earlier today, the former reality television star debuted "Last One Standing," the new anthem he wrote and recorded for the Big East Conference. Espn will begin playing the song tomorrow night during its coverage of the Ncaa tournament. So is the pressure now on to write a wedding song for himself and fiancée Vanessa Minnillo? Read on to find out what Lachey just told me. Follow: Marc on Twitter and Facebook Is this like the ultimate project for you—combining sports and music? This is pretty much the dream scenario for me. Those are kind of my two...

'Survivor: Nicaragua' finale: Jud 'Fabio' Birza, Chase Rice, Holly Hoffman or Sash Lenahan? Who won?
Were you surprised by the finale of the 21st season of "Survivor"? We were surprised by a few things, particularly how close the final vote was.
Immunity Challenge
After a season-recapping video montage and some boring strategy talk, the survivors head to the next Immunity Challenge. They have to answer questions about Nicaragua in order to get puzzle pieces, then assemble a puzzle for the win.
Holly, Sash and Chase are in the lead when they get to the puzzle. Dan and Fabio are in it, but far behind. Sash is good at puzzles and looks to have this in the bag, until Fabio masterfully gets his puzzle together and takes it. Wow, good for Fabio.
Pre-Tribal
Fabio is gunning for Holly and he starts working on Chase and Sash to vote her out. Chase seems to be pretty set on Dan because Dan hasn't made any enemies and will easily win jury votes.

Hello, my pretties. Rusty's on vacation until New Year's, so buckle your chin straps because I'm steering this ride until then and I'm almost as crazy about television as I am about dessert foods. Today is Sunday and it's also a holiday weekend, so I hope none of you have big television-watching plans tonight, because there ain't shit on. I'll probably be watching Seven Brides for Seven Brothers again, which I finally (Finally!) got on DVD for Christmas and have basically been watching on repeat for the past two days straight. Try to contain your jealousy.
Tonight's brain candy menu:

ABC: The Sound of Music (the hills are alive, yo)
Fox: Some show I've never even heard of called "Brothers" is having its season finale. It's about a mother meddling in the love lives of her sons, one of whom is apparently named "Chill." I don't...
