In this episode, Patty is concerned that her father, Martin, is old and may not have much time left for her to spend with him. He assures her that he isn't as old as she thinks he is, and that he plans to be around to tell this to Patty's grandchildren. This would become somewhat prophetic as William Schallert, who portrayed Martin Lane and had remained in contact with Patty Duke, lived long enough to witness her become a grandmother to three grandchildren. He died in May 2016 (age 93) while Patty Duke had passed away earlier, in March of that year (age 69).
When Martin drives home after work and parks outside the front door, the scene reveals a view of Manhattan skyscrapers. The Lane family home has a real NYC address, 9 Remsen Street, on a waterfront cul-de-sac in Brooklyn Heights, and the view over Martin's exit from the car is that of the building at 60 South Street, near the Wall Street Ferry.
Later in 2016, the series had its third death of the four living cast members, when Eddie Applegate, who played Richard Harrison died on October 17, at 81. As of December 2020, Paul O'Keefe who played brother Ross, is at 69, the last living main cast actor.
This is the 12th and final appearance Kitty Sullivan makes in the series as Sue Ellen. The character appears first in The Tycoons (1964), but is played by Susan Tyrrell.
The golfer that Martin would have met had he gone to the friend's party is referred to simply by his last name: Sebring, which alludes to the golf course founded and named for the city of Sebring, Florida, where it is located. It was established in 1924 and quickly became a destination for golfers from around the world.
