United Association For Unprotected Minors
JordanThomasHall10 June 2020
Patty's teacher has assigned the class a project and Patty has developed her own union, UAFUM- the United Association For Unprotected Minors. Patty feels she can use it to make her parents give her, Cathy, and Ross anything they want. To their surprise, Martin and Natalie go along with the demands... in exchange for their own conditions by way of additional chores. All parties agree to "a successful example of collective bargaining". The kids quickly grow tired of the extra work. Natalie becomes leery of the arrangement as well, but Martin cautions her, "I want them to learn that privileges carry obligations. You don't get something without giving something. I think that's an important lesson for them." (How we need that lesson in 2020!) When the kids are confronted about not doing the dishes, Patty demands a dishwasher. When Martin brings out that it wasn't in the agreement, the kids go on strike. With no work, their allowance is cut off. Ross points out how bad the union has been for him, and Cathy tries to reason with a stubborn Patty who insists on holding out. Furthermore, she forces Ross out of his money to keep them going. Both parties remain firm in their stance, but a lesson is learned for all.

Not an especially funny episode, but the message is strong, and important.
