A biopic about the late comedy legend Bernie Mac is in development at John Legend’s production company, Get Lifted, the music star’s producing partner Mike Jackson said on Thursday.
Jackson made the announcement during a Q&a with Legend at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, saying that a deal had just been made between the studio and Bernie Mac’s estate that “John doesn’t know about yet.”
“Look at you, breaking news,” the seemingly surprised Legend said.
Bernie Mac rose to prominence on the Chicago stand-up comedy circuit before becoming one of the biggest comedic stars of film and television in the 2000s, earning two Emmy nominations for his lead performance on “The Bernie Mac Show.” On the big screen, he was best known for appearing alongside Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and D.L. Samuel L. Jackson has been tapped to play a retired hitman in a currently untitled feature, which will be directed by Focus and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot helmers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra. The project re-teams Jackson with Soul Men co-writer Matthew Stone, who penned the script. John Davis (The Predator franchise) is producing.
Jackson will star as Morris Stokes, who is not your typical retiree. Once the trusted hitman for mob boss “Easy-a,” he’s got more kills under his belt than he can count and has earned his time out of the game. When his nephew, Leslie, makes a stupid mistake, Morris gets a call from his old boss and must negotiate one last job: either help the kid recover the lost money, or put a bullet in him. Morris drags Leslie around town, making him clean up his mess while pontificating on some of life’s lessons along the way.

Park City - It feel like Altman is in the air these days. There was, after all, a giant coffee table book about him that ended up under the trees of many a film nerd this Christmas, and little by little, his films are making their way onto Blu-ray, and Netflix just recently added a documentary that is a look back at his remarkable career. This fall also saw the release of "Inherent Vice," and while that is an adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel and very much a Paul Thomas Anderson film, there are more than a few echoes of Altman's "The Long Goodbye" in there. Now we've got the latest film from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who have had an uneven career as filmmakers so far. They co-wrote "Half Nelson" together, and then started co-directing as well. I sort of like "Sugar," their first film as co-directors,...

Lee (Soul Men) and features a fleet of second rate talent including Ashley Tisdale, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, Katt Williams, Molly Shannon, Terry Crews, Simon Rex, Jerry O'Connell, Sarah Hyland, Katrina Bowden, Tyler Posey, Shad Moss aka Bow Wow, Kate Walsh, Heather Locklear, Mac Miller and Mike Tyson. The film spoofs films such as Paranormal Activity, Mama, Sinister, Black Swan and Evil Dead and even finds a way to toss a little Inception parody in there.

A few months back we saw the first trailer for A Haunted House, Marlon Wayans' own attempt to return to the success of the Scary Movie franchise without the benefit of the established name. As expected, it showcased some pretty obvious and painfully low brow humour. However, now that this pitiful trailer for Scary Movie 5 has arrived, I'm actually starting to appreciate the Wayans flick a little more. Scary Movie 5 is directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Soul Men, Undercover Brother) and is produced and co-written by veteran spoofmeister David Zucker. It seems content to coast by on merely referencing the Paranormal Activity movies while barely even attempting to make any jokes. It also seems to be heavily banking on recognizable stars like Ashley Tisdale, Heather Locklear, and yes, Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan. Hey, at least there's also an Inception gag thrown in for good measure. Scary Movie 5...

Watch the first official trailer for Scary Movie 5 starring Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Ashley Tisdale, Katt Wiliams and Heather Locklear. Think Paranormal Activity meets Black Swan with a dash of Inception.

Jody’s extremely controlling former dancer mother is determined that Jody will have the brilliant career that eluded her. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the cinema, along comes yet another Scary Movie film to ruin everyone’s day! This time not even Anna Faris is back, as former High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale takes the lead in Scary Movie 5, alongside Terry Crews, Simon Rex, Erica Ash, Heather Locklear and Molly Shannon, with Mike Tyson, Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan (pictured above) apparently cameoing as themselves.
With a script by David Zucker (Airplane!, BASEketball) and Pat Proft (The Naked Gun, Police Academy) and helmed by Malcolm D. Lee (Soul Men), Scary Movie 5 is set for a release on April 12th 2013.

Scary Movie 5 will mark the first film in the series not to be led by Anna Faris, and it’s been hard to imagine the film without her.
But that difficulty is no longer a problem, with the first trailer debuting over at MTV, teasing a handful of spoofs in the form of Paranormal Activity, Inception, and Black Swan.

Scary Movie 5 marks the first film in the franchise that won’t see Anna Faris starring in the lead. I still can’t quite picture a film in the series without her, but that’s what we have coming our way next year. And leading in her place will be Ashley Tisdale, best known for her role as Sharpay in the High School Musical films.
We got our first look at Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan in the film back in September, showing us Lohan’s cameo as herself, and now the first image of Tisdale in the lead has debuted online.

Scary Movie 5 will be the first in the series without leading actress Anna Faris, but the film will see the return of Charlie Sheen as Tom Logan, and now we’ve got our first look at Sheen in the new film alongside Lindsay Lohan.
We caught the first poster for Lohan’s upcoming Lifetime movie, Liz & Dick, this morning, and now the afternoon brings with it a more familiar-looking face in the young actress.
The film is thought to be focusing on Black Swan as its jumping off point, with plenty of spoofs on Paranormal Activity, 127 Hours, and more.
Despite early reports that Lohan had exited the production, we’ve got great proof now that those reports weren’t true, with the actress sharing a bedroom scene here with Mr. Charlie Sheen.

Anyone who's been hotly anticipating Scary Movie 5 has probably long since run out of patience. but let's face it, no one is actually hotly anticipating Scary Movie 5. The horror parody franchise that seemed thin on ideas even in the first installment spent 6 years running out of steam, and then another 6 years promising a fifth installment, for a while with no real sign of it ever happening. But the movie started showing signs of life earlier this year, with Soul Men's Malcolm Lee hired to direct, and a whole new bunch of celebrity cameos rumored. There's still nothing super official, but the latest word from E! is that Lindsay Lohan has signed a deal to appear in the movie, and that Charlie Sheen will also be back, despite the fact that he was killed off in Scary Movie 4. They also say that the film is set for...

Anna Faris has confirmed that she will not return for the upcoming fifth "Scary Movie" installment. As a result, The Weinstein Company is considering the new movie a reboot and will bring on an entirely new cast. But E! Online is now reporting that Charlie Sheen will be returning, despite being killed off in "Scary Movie 4." Joining him will be Lindsay Lohan. Her reps claim that a deal has yet to be signed, but insiders say that the actress will definitely take the role. Malcolm Lee (Soul Men, Undercover Brother) is directing and will begin shooting later this summer. Any close reader of film credits is familiar with the words, “The persons and events in this motion picture are fictitious. Any similarity to actual persons or events is unintentional.” On the other hand, wasn't it philosopher Friedrich Schiller who once remarked, “There's no such thing as chance”? It's been over five years now since the last installment in the Scary Movie franchise hit theatres, and although Scary Movie 4 was not quite as successful as parts 1 or 3, it made a lot more money that I ever would have expected -- $178 million worldwide, to be exact. Clearly people still find these movies amusing, and with horror continuing to thrive in Hollywood, it only makes sense that another installment would eventually be greenlit. A couple of weeks ago we learned that Dimension Films was in the process of setting up Scary Movie 5, and although veteran spoof master David Zucker will return to produce and co-write, he will not return to direct. Perhaps more distressing, however, is the fact that the franchise's biggest star, Anna Faris, will not be returning either. In a recent interview with Coming Soon, Anna Faris was asked about her potential involvement in Scary Movie 5.

Nashville, Tenn. — Charles "Skip" Pitts, the longtime Memphis guitar player for Isaac Hayes whose distinctive sound helped define soul and make "Shaft" cool, has died. He was 65.
Tim Sampson, communication director with the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, said Pitts died Tuesday in Memphis after a long struggle with cancer.
Pitts was responsible for the unforgettable wah-wah pedal guitar sound on Hayes' "Theme from Shaft," the `70s Blaxploitation film that remains a memorable moment in American popular culture – mostly due to the enduring popularity of the song. Pitts' 1971 riff was angry and bristling with menace, capturing a dangerous vibe that transcended the screen and translated to the streets of a tense nation.
He also was responsible the guitar line from The Isley Brothers' "It's Your Thing," also a distinctive, influential moment in American music.

I honestly thought they were done with this franchise, but it appears that the Scary Movie series is still going strong. Entertainment Weekly reports that director Malcolm Lee, Spike Lee's cousin, is going to be behind the camera for the next installment of the long-running spoof franchise. Malcolm has directed a few films before, notably Undercover Brother, Roll Bounce, and his most recent effort, 2008's Soul Men. Lee will write and produce Scary Movie 5 alongside series stalwart David Zucker, and production is slated to being this summer. The sequel already has a January 11th, 2013 release date carved into the calendar. Looks like they're moving quickly on this one, trying to remain in the public consciousness after the most recent Scream film hit theaters last year. I'd like to think that society has moved past considering these movies comedies, though they were always better than the uninspired spin-offs Superhero Movie,...

The picture above is one of many from the anniversary dinner of the 12-year-old comedy/drama The Best Man. The cast of Malcolm D. Lee’s 1999 debut hit got together earlier this year to celebrate the occasion and it looks like it has sparked something. Deadline reports the event caused the director to get serious about a sequel.
Shadow and Act already reported last year that he had an idea for a sequel, but requested that it will only happen if enough people “like” the Facebook page. Although I seriously hope that isn’t the barometer for greenlighting a film, it looks like there are enough fans. Universal Pictures has signed Lee to write, direct and produce the sequel with the intention that the entire cast will return.
